My name is Jim Wheeler and I’m from Morris, CT. This is my story...
My family and I were sitting home one cold wintery evening during a power outage. I had my trusty generator out powering our home. During one of my fuel checks, I found that the generator was almost completely buried in a very large snowdrift. The electrical plugs were packed with snow and the generator had to be dug out in order
to access the fuel cap. What was the potential electrical hazard? How efficiently is the generator operating when it is buried in a snowdrift? This scenario made me begin to think of other weather-related hazards my generator may encounter during times of operation.… Driving rain, hail, whatever the wind decides to blow its way? There must be something that I could purchase to remedy this problem. I began searching online to find something to protect my generator while it is in use. To my surprise, there was nothing but homebuilt contraptions that wouldn't do the job. So, I went to the drawing board and began designing a shelter that can be easily assembled when needed, and quickly taken apart when not. I also wanted an enclosure that could be put together without the use of tools, yet simple enough that anyone could use. Moreover, the design had to be rigid enough to protect the valuable machinery inside, compact enough to be easily stored, and mobile enough to be taken wherever a generator is in need. I built several different designs of GenSafe to try and find that perfect combination. Once I was happy with my mockup, I presented it to my engineer and design team, so they could bring my concept to life. We went through several prototypes to find the simplest, easiest to assemble and most durable design. We are extremely pleased with what we have created. GenSafe is built out of 16- and 18-gauge, powder-coated steel, and weighs in at just over one hundred pounds. GenSafe is a patent-pending portable shelter that can accommodate over 700 generator models and is a must-have for anyone that owns a portable generator. This is how it works. Place the base on level ground and roll your generator onto it. Once the generator is centered on the base, slide, and lock the left and right panels into the base. Next, slide and lock the front and back panels into the sides. Then, place the lid on the top of GenSafe and lower it down. (The rear of the lid has been secured to the rear of GenSafe via locking hardware.) Now, reach inside through the removable front access door and secure the front of the lid to the front panel using the latch strap. Next, run the power cords through the cord holes on the bottom of the front panel. Utilizing the front access door, plug the cords into the generator and start it. Lastly, set the front door back in place, close it, and lock it. It’s that easy and takes only a couple minutes to complete. Your generator is now completely locked up from within and all set to handle whatever Mother Nature is ready to throw at it. I realize that many people don’t have a place indoors to store their generators when not in use. I have seen people using large plastic garbage receptacles, makeshift lean-tos, and even chaining their generators to trees. Where is the security and protection in those options? GenSafe can be anchored to the ground without the use of a concrete pad. Simply secure the base to the ground, and then follow the same assembly process to have a secure and worry-free enclosure to permanently store your portable generator. Heading to the campground, racetrack, or construction site? Take GenSafe along to have a temporary fortress for your generator. Anchor it, assemble it, lock it. Done! Plato once said; “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Boy, was he right! I would never have thought that way back when I came up with the idea for myself, it would have turned into a business helping people protect one of their most important investments. If I needed a GenSafe, so did many others! Thanks for visiting my site! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. Jim Wheeler
