The Dollar Book Fair pledges to provide every child regardless or socio-economic status, race or gender access to affordable books. At a time when our educational system is being hit the hardest our company is able to step up and make reading affordable to every one. Our goal is to help make reading affordable for the communities we serve. We have donated over 100,000 books to schools and literacy
organizations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We make reading affordable by providing quality books at a price everyone can afford. All of our children books are only $1 and most other books are $2. Our company was founded by Jesse Pelayo. He was been a teacher in Los Angeles for 14 years. Pelayo has been passionate about literacy and understands the importance of reading in the development of a child. While he was a Title 1 Coordinator in charge of the "No Child Left Behind" program, he saw first hand the need to get quality books in the hands of students. He realized that the child's performance at school was directly connected to the amount of reading he or she did. Student performance in every subject increases after the child gets into the habit of reading. The problem was and continues to be that many kids cannot afford to buy books at regular price. This is where the Dollar-a-Book concept was born. We sell used, quality books that typically sell at other bookstores up to $50 dlls. and we are able to offer them for One and Two Dollars each.
