Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice. - Philippians 4:4

It’s been kinda a tough week.
Disappointing.
Thankful.
The whole spectrum.
In all things, I rejoice.
This bucket of blooms looked beautiful just sitting in the sink after I added some water because the bucket with the flowers had spilled over in the field…of course 😑
I’m not good at “positive thinking” but I can get on board with things that are true, lovely, pure, and praiseworthy.
These blooms fit that description and changed my heart.

This has been a prune and bloom kinda week 🌸

My week in pictures:

🌼On Mondays, I spend my time at the Monticello Community Garden as a master gardener with the University of Illinois Extension DeWitt, Macon and Piatt Counties. I volunteer with 9 other people at the garden. It is the best way to start a Monday. The flowers and vegetables we grow are donated to local community organizations. This past week an arrangement was put together for Kirby Hospital. Normally we put together more arrangements, but I was saving the flowers for a cut flower program later in the week.

🌼A bucket full of celosia. Celosia really starts to shine in the late summer months. My germination rate was not as good as I would have hoped for, but I will continue to work towards greater germination because these shine as a beautiful textural line flower.

🌼On Friday, I cut over 250 stems for a cut flower program in Bement, IL that I did as a master gardener. Flowers would never be part of my life without the "Master Gardener" program through the U of I Extension program. My dining room table was filled with the most abundant beauty. It's hard to believe I get to do this. My sweet, little fluffy orange cat, Reagan, approved of all the blooms.

🌼A beautiful, birthday bouquet filled with the most magical hues. Zinnias, Rudbeckia, Cosmos, Jewels of Opar, Strawflowers...the way the flowers all come together is nothing short of miraculous.

🌼Dahlias. Such a sweet little flower head. To be honest, Dahlias take more work than I am mentally resourced for🤣 I'm working on it though.

Have a great week. Prune, bloom, and stop and smell the flowers.

Every house needs a grandmother in it. - Louisa May Alcott

I did not get pictures of my bouquets before the Monticello Farmers' Market.
Prepping flower bouquets was different yesterday
I was busy being a Gigi and playing and rocking the sweetest little grandbaby to sleep for her nap.
In between, I wrapped flowers.
My family stepped in and made sure I was ready to go.

I am grateful for the wonderful stories that people share with me when they buy a bouquet from me.
A family bought a bouquet for their 90 year old neighbor.
They told me that their neighbor and their little daughter have struck up quite the relationship with each other.
My heart melted.
The bouquet was from the little girl to her 90 year old friend.

The late summer colors are filling up the flower beds. Beautiful salmon zinnias, 'Ballerina' zinnias, and celosia 'Shimmer' have stolen the show.

Two beautiful bouquets.
One for a 97th birthday and the other for a 24th wedding anniversary.
Both such special moments.

The colors are changing in the bouquets as the summer months change. I love the muted zinnias. They are so beautiful. A cute marigold was tucked into each bouquet.

These are not ordinary things❣️

They have been meticulously cared for from seed, to transplant, to harvest…and they have been worth the wait.

A miracle wrapped in bouquet paper 🌸

See you soon at the Downs Village Market from 4pm-6pm today 🌸🥕🥒🌽🥔🌱🪴
