Welcome to Wednesday, August 19, 2026, where today is NATIONAL SOFT ICE CREAM DAY, WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY, WORLD PHOTO DAY, NATIONAL HOT AND SPICY FOOD DAY, and NATIONAL POTATO DAY.
Soft ice cream would help any day run more smoothly, wouldn’t it? Can you believe all the different options we have now when it comes to soft serve?
If soft serve ice cream is our dessert for the day, what will be the savory? Are you into Hot and Spicy Food? Are jalapenos as hot as you prefer, or do you boast of enjoying those that are classified as the hottest and spiciest (Carolina Reaper and Dragon’s Breath)?
I am a wimp when it comes to Hot and Spicy so I would rather focus on National Potato Day minus any unnecessary spices…. just salt and pepper, please. Yes, I absolutely love this starchy tuber better known as the potato. Just consider all the diverse ways potatoes can be cooked (baked, fried, and boiled).
To honor the potato and World Photo Day, too, you could post some of your Potato Creations on social media today. What other great photo shots do you want to capture on this important photo day?
Lastly, I would like for us to look at World Humanitarian Day. Today we can celebrate the day by honoring the humanitarian aid workers that deliver services around the world to those that need them the most. Whether it be wars or natural disasters, these workers risk their lives to deliver assistance. For better understanding of the (often dangerous) services they provide, you can visit the Web (WHO and/or UN.org) for more information.
Well, that’s how Wednesday looks. The Soft Serve Ice Cream (hello, Goody Shack) and Potatoes sound best to me. I trust something sounds great to you, as well.
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

Tis the Season to celebrate Tuesday, August 18, 2026, where today is NATIONAL MAIL ORDER CATALOG DAY, NATIONAL FAJITA DAY, and NATIONAL ICE CREAM PIE DAY.
I still like hard-copy catalogs. How about you? I still remember and miss the big seasonal catalogs from companies like JCPenney, Spiegel, and Sears. I also loved their Christmas Catalogs, too.
Did you know that Sears even use to SELL HOUSES via mail? Yes, Sears sold 75,000 Mail Order Homes between 1908 and 1939. That is the past, though, so I cherish even more the few catalogs that I still receive. What mail order catalogs do you still receive?
If this daily celebration has you wanting for more mail order catalogs, I believe that if you browse the internet to see how many catalogs are still available…. that you might be surprised.
I also plan to participate in National Fajita Day, too. Did you know that fajita means little pieces/strips of meat? When the dish was created in the 1940s with Mexican ranch workers living in West Texas near the Mexican border, I do NOT believe they knew what food phenomenon their ingenuity would create. For you see, after a steer was butchered, the workers were given the least desirable parts of the steer…. such as skirt steak. To tenderize this tough cut of meat, the workers learned to marinate and grill the meat until it was delectable.
For today, what will you add to your “little strip of meats” (grilled peppers and onions, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, guacamole, etc., etc.)? Will you serve it with soft flour shells, rice, and refried beans? Oh, My! I can hardly wait to celebrate National Fajita Day, how about you?
For dessert, I could go with an Ice Cream Pie, too. Whether I make my own or allow someone else or company to do the honors is left to be determined.
So let the slicing begin.
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

Tis the Season to celebrate Monday, August 17, 2026, where today is NATIONAL I LOVE MY FEET DAY, NATIONAL VANILLA CUSTARD DAY, NATIONAL PINEAPPLE JUICE DAY, and NATIONAL THRIFT SHOP DAY.
What do you think of when you think of National I Love My Feet Day? Do you automatically think of a Foot Massage and Pedicure? Which then might just call for some new sandals? Sounds like a good plan…. for at the end of the day, you will not just love your feet, but your new shoes, too …. even several pairs of shoes.
Especially, if you happen to get your shoes at a great price at the Thrift Store. Yes, you can combine both of today’s celebrations. Plus, while celebrating National Thrift Shop Day, you can see what other great finds can become yours…. other than just sandals. For example, are you still looking for some school clothes to outfit your children for the 2026-2027 School Year? If so, why not try finding a Thrift Store that is charity based, so two populations will benefit from your Thrift Store Finds. Oh, I love a good bargain, don’t you?
Also, do you love the sound of Vanilla Custard? As you know, you can make it completely from scratch or you can buy a box of ingredients that will help you. Or maybe the thought of a delicious glass of Pineapple Juice caught your attention from the start. I love it on ice…. the colder the better. Yum!
Enjoy!
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

08/16/2026

Tis the Season to celebrate Sunday, August 16, 2026, where today is NATIONAL TELL A JOKE DAY and NATIONAL ROLLER COASTER DAY. Most importantly, though, it is a Day of Worship for many. However, I think every day is a day to talk about JOKES.
Ok, ok……If at first glance, you do not feel inclined to tell a joke today or even laugh for that matter, you might want to rethink that. Better than that, you might want to quickly go to YouTube or other sources to watch once again one of your favorite comic routines. Even if you are not in a laughing mood, you will probably see that laughter wins out. Then if research is correct, you might just start to feel better both mentally and physically. Even some hospitals have invested in Laughter Units for they too believe in the power of laughter to help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression; aid in fighting infection; share similar benefits of exercise; increases pain tolerance, etc., etc. Are you ready for better health? If so, start sharing some funny stories!!
Do you also think you could find someone that would like to celebrate the Roller Coaster with you today, too? Yes, does National Roller Coaster Day have your name written all over it? Do you just love Roller Coasters?
I know, I know…. you might not be within a close distance to a Roller Coaster. So, maybe it is time to schedule a time for Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green or Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville. Or maybe you plan to attend the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville, Kentucky, starting August 20-30. I am fairly sure they will have a Roller Coaster. It should make you laugh, too.
But Roller Coaster or not today, though, may we lace this day with laughter. Hopefully, you will find yourself in agreement with Milton Berle when he said, “Laughter is an instant vacation.” I like the sound of that, don’t you?
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

Tis the Season to celebrate Friday, August 14, 2026, which is NATIONAL CREAMSICLE DAY and WORLD CALLIGRAPHY DAY!
First, do you feel a need to celebrate National Creamsicle Day? You know…. the delicious treat of vanilla ice cream covered with orange sherbet. The book, Foodimentary and other food historians feel that in 1905, Frank Epperson was “supposedly” successful in surrounding vanilla ice cream in a layer of frozen fruit juice. Why not give him credit since Epperson is given full credit for inventing the Popsicle, too. He also invented the Fudgsicle, so if he said he created the Creamsicle, the odds are good that he did. However, my research in the past said that it was the Popsicle that he accidentally created in 1905. But I say, “Thanks, Frank, for giving us a great, refreshing treat for a summer day, no matter which came first…. the Popsicle or the Creamsicle.”
Now, since hopefully many students had an exceptionally good first day of school this week…. we pray that it will only be the beginning of a remarkably successful 2026-2027 School Year. Yes, let the learning begin.
In fact, for World Calligraphy Day would you like to try your best to learn how to do construct this artistic, elegant form of writing? Today it is even sometimes called Fancy Writing, and it is used on all sorts of household and office décor. I just love it, and I would certainly like to become a student of this Art. Is today the day?
However, we spend this day, though, Calligraphy and Creamsicles or not, let us please often find ourselves in prayer for the many students and staff that began school this week (other schools start next week and Wayne County starts August 25.) Prayers for safety, wisdom, and well-being.
Here is to the 2026-2027 School Year!
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

08/13/2026

Are you ready for a great Thursday, August 13, 2026? I specifically hope that it is great for all left-handers, though, for this is their day, INTERNATIONAL LEFT-HANDERS DAY. Also, for you folks that love beef, how does FILET MIGNON DAY sound to you?
Let us begin, though, with left-handers since they are often LEFT out……at least when arrangements are made for them. Arrangements such as seating placement at the dinner table. Left-handers prefer an end seat. So, on this Left-Handers Day, what other considerations can be made for roughly 10 percent of the world’s population? A lefty trying to use regular scissors is a suitable place to start. But this is just the start…. how about wire-bound notebooks, a computer mouse, school desks, credit card swipers, zippers, using a car’s cup holder, using a can opener, smearing what has just been written, etc., etc.
Yes, these dear lefties need some respect and some consideration on this day. How about a gift of a pair of left-handed scissors? How about also preferential seating at the dinner table…. especially if you plan to celebrate Filet Mignon Day, too. Yes, you need to give those Lefties plenty of room to wield their knife as they enjoy this wonderful cut of beef.
I believe a lot of us will want to join the Lefties when it comes to celebrating Filet Mignon Day, too. For in John-Bryan Hopkins’ book, FOODIMENTARY, he refers to this cut from the small end of the tenderloin as the “king of luxurious meat cuts.” He educates us more by saying it comes from the French with “filet meaning a boneless thick cut, and mignon, which means cute or dainty.”
HHHHmmmmnnnn, are some of you thinking that you do not care what it means in French, you simply know that this is your favorite cut of meat…. simply because it is from the TENDERloin, right?
Either way, happy dining!
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

08/12/2026

Tis the Season to celebrate Wednesday, August 12, 2026, where today is NATIONAL SEWING MACHINE DAY, TRUCK DRIVER DAY, NATIONAL MIDDLE CHILD DAY, NATIONAL VINYL RECORD DAY, and NATIONAL JULIENNE FRIES DAY. Plus, if you happen to be in Europe today, you are going to experience another TOTAL ECLIPSE. Just saying.
But I will be stationed in Frazer, Ky. today, and since I come from a family of Truck Drivers, I want to start by celebrating with them. In my books, they are almost as special as FARMERS.
Now, I am also ready to celebrate the Middle Child since we are told they are often left out of consideration. Truth be told, there could be a little grain of truth in that. For we do know that the first child does get the most attention…. being THE FIRST!! Then we have the THE BABY…. who needs a lot of attention…. leaving the middle child on his/her own. Since I am not a middle child (I am the baby), I cannot vouch for certainty that the middle child is given less attention than the other children. However, since research does point to this situation, on this day, could we give those middle kids a little more attention?
Now for all people (only child, the baby, etc.), I believe that most of us will be happy to have a reason to celebrate fries. Today, though, the celebration is for Julienne Fries. Which simply means fries prepared in the French method of cutting into thin strips, like matchsticks.
How about vinyl records, are you a fan of them, too? Do you remember when the Vinyl Surge became popular again about ten years ago…. or longer. The interest in vinyl is still prevalent, though. Whether you find your vinyl online, or have a favorite Record Store, maybe today is the day to do more shopping. Could this even be the day you retrieve your box of treasured vinyl and player from the attic, basement, etc.?
Speaking of Record Players, I have not forgotten the Sewing Machine either. In fact, I wish I had come from a lengthy line of sewers, too, but unfortunately that is not the case. However, for you that can sew, celebrate the Sewing Machine in whatever fashion you desire.
Here is to making today a SEW PERFECT DAY.
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

Tis the Season to experience Tuesday, August 11, 2026, where today is NATIONAL SONS AND DAUGHTERS’ DAY.
I know that every day is important when it comes to your sons and daughters, but if your Sons and Daughters are still school age children, I am sure that some of your present daily activities focus on school starting tomorrow for some. In fact, some schools have already started for the 2026-2027 School Year. So, I know that you want your children and grandchildren to have an incredibly positive school year. Thus, I feel the greatest way we can support them is with prayer. I know that several communities are having Prayer Walks around their schools, and I feel this is the wisest thing you can do for your children and community. Yes, lace their entire school year in prayer.
However, …. if your family is not back in school yet…. maybe you might even be on the last days of a coastal vacation. If you are so blessed, you are in the perfect setting for another daily celebration, PLAY IN THE SAND DAY.
Beach or not today, though, you will need nourishment which brings me to today’s last celebration, National PANINI DAY which is part of Panini Month. The Panini and panini shops were a product of Milan in the 1970s and 80s. The Panini Craze caught on in the states, too, when it crossed the pond and found a home in places like Manhattan during the 1990s.
Panini or not, though……Sand or not, though…. I am sure that we are all concerned about the upcoming School Year. Whether we are parents or grandparents of present school-age children or not, may we pray for a safe and productive year for all the students and school staff.
Let the praying begin.
Until we meet again. See you, bye.

08/10/2026

Tis the Season to celebrate Monday, August 10, 2026, where today is NATIONAL LAZY DAY and NATIONAL S’MORES DAY.
First, do you want to be LAZY this MONDAY in August? I suppose…. it is as the song says, “The hazy, lazy, crazy days of summer.” So, so…. do we live up to the day’s/song’s suggestions? Well, an afternoon nap might work in perfectly…… since many school staff and students will soon be going back to school. Can we fault them for wanting to sleep often during this day? Pretty soon the school buses will be up and running as early as 6:30 (or earlier) for some, so this might be the perfect day for these folks to hit the snooze button as often as they desire.
When the nappers finally wake up from their rest, perhaps they will choose to also celebrate National S’mores Day, too. I love S’mores, how about you? I look forward to celebrating the day, but in recent years I have been trying a different technique for my S’mores. I am talking about using the STUFFED PUFFS. I am referring to the marshmallows that are stuffed with chocolate. I tried roasting/toasting them, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. They were delicious. Now I use them for S’mores. I will just have to decide if I am just going with the original STUFFED PUFFS or the more recent Chocolate-on-Chocolate Stuffed Puffs. Yes, they have already increased the Chocolate. Ok, I am ready to celebrate National S’mores Day, have about you?
HHHhhhmmmmnnn a lazy day with a delicious treat!
Yes, I am ready to join Nat King Cole as we sing and celebrate “The (Those) Lazy-Hazy-Crazy-Days of Summer” …. where we “Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer.”
Let the singing (and snoozing) begin.
Until we meet again. See you, bye.
