I don't often post since I am so busy cleaning and repairing fishing reels! But we have fallen on hard times. I am so busy in the shop that I need some help. I currently have over three hundred reels for service and/or repair sitting in the shop. I am getting more each day than I can finish repairing!

If you or someone you know lives in the Montesano area and have reasonable mechanical skills AND would enjoy learning to service and repair fishing Reels... Please have them message us. You won't get rich, but it is rewarding, and you get to hear some of the wildest fish stories ever!

Special Note! We are increasing our base pricing effective April 1, 2023! We have worked hard over the last 6 years to keep our pricing reasonable for the sports and commercial fisherman. The recent months have seen shortages of new parts, and inflations impacted on the cost of parts has been beyond belief! A great example is the cost of cork rings... In spring of 2022, we were able to buy them for $.45 to $1.25 per ring depending on quality. Now those same lower end rings are costing over $2.00. Add in the minimum hourly wage in Washington State where we are based is currently $15.74. We are finding that more often than not, the cost to service and repair your reel has been more than we have charged you! That is not a healthy business model!

So, starting April 1, 2023, we will be increasing our base "Service and Repair" fee to $16. per reel. In addition, there will be a "surcharge" for reels that have been used in saltwater and/or have excessive bait residue on them.

We will continue to strive to provide the best service and repair experience that we can!

Tip of the Day: Keep your reels clean, your line fresh and snug, and your hooks sharp!

While restoring a split bamboo fly rod, I realized that the first snake guide had been replaced! When I removed the badly damaged wraps, I found it was a paper clip that had been bent to form a "snake" guide.... Someone had been very ingenious.

This split bamboo fly rod came into the shop for repair/restoration this last week. We will be retying all of the guides and replacing the tip guides. The bamboo will be lightly sanded, and a new finish coat applied. We will also attempt to recreate the decals and apply them. The rod sock will be cleaned and pressed. In addition, the rod case will be refinished with new decal! This will be a tedious project, but very rewarding in the end.

Now here is a restoration that you will not see every day! This rod (if you can call it that) and reel combo was very popular in its day! I cleaned it up, put on some new line, replaced a couple of rusted nuts and installed a new carbontex drag washer. Tuned it up and cast 35' on the first test cast! Pretty impressive! Perfect for a 7-year-old grandchild to cast off a dock! How fun! Go Make those memories!

We are working on prepping this Lamiglas "Kenai Kwik" casting rod to install new carbon fiber butt and fore end handle grips! Much of the original cork on the butt section was missing or damaged and the customer wants to replace it with carbon fiber grip sections. Watch for this work to progress over the next few weeks. At this point, the cork has been removed, the two casting guides on this section have been removed and the hook keeper has also been removed. Next is the removal of the epoxy glue residue still on the rod. Then just wait for the new fore arm and butt sections to arrive.!

Finished another restoration of a "vintage fishing Rod and Reel this last weekend. The reel was mounted on the rod and it appeared that they had been left in a bucket of saltwater sometime in the past! Both were damaged severely by the saltwater corrosion and required extensive work to remove the resulting damage. ON THE ROD: all of the guides were replaced and wrapped on with an age-appropriate rod thread. Missing cork was replaced and reshaped on the handle. A new butt cap was installed. The reel seat was finished with a corrosion and rust inhibiting finish. A new aluminum reel clamp was fabricated and installed. In addition, the whole rod was given a fresh clear coat finish. THE REEL: was completely disassembled and, all rust and corrosion was removed and, the parts were treated with Salt-Away. Fiber drag washers were replaced. All moving parts were re-lubricated and inspected. Roen and damaged parts were replaced. The Reel was then bench tested and tuned. Wish that I had taken before and after photos!

Just finished replacing broken/missing guides and restoring others on this rod. It is not an expensive rod, but the owner has "history" with it! Easy and reasonably priced repairs made it almost like new again!

After a slow December in the shop, January has been blazing! We received over 60 reels in a single day last week. As of today, I have either finished or at least gone through all but 6 of those reels. Now, the downside (which is not bad at all), is that we have a shortage of some of the common parts in our inventory. Although, we have ordered, some suppliers are pretty slow in filling their orders. Just take a look at the grocery store shelves lately. AN ADDITIONAL NOTE! We continue to have issues with our web site and are committed to getting them resolved! www.fixmyreelnow.com, Is at least partly functional at this time... We will keep you posted! Thanks, Rollin
