I had the absolute privilege to see and listen to Ruta Sepetys chat about her new book A FORTUNE OF SAND tonight with I quickly became a fan after picking up a previously written book called, SALT TO THE SEA, while visiting the Holocaust Center in Washington, DC.

Listening to her tonight though really solidified my fan status. To hear the way she speaks of history and research and respecting stories that belong to peopleā€¦ she made my heart swell. Iā€™ve always been a researcher. Iā€™ve always loved history and learning.
I had just a brief few moments to speak with her as she generously signed my new copy and the copy of SALT TO THE SEA that I brought. I told her she said something so brilliant, ā€œResilience is a powerful hopeā€. šŸ„¹ WOW! I told her I appreciated her research and dedication to the people she writes about and that I loved history and am a researcher, too and she called us, ā€œcurious peopleā€. šŸ„°
Such a great night, indeed!
