In this season when fear and hopelessness are greatly promoted, I would like to recommend we promote some form of encouragement and inspiration instead. This is the time of year when everyone re-evaluates where they are; and perhaps, how they got there. Very often, when we seem to being going through repetitive negative cycles, we ask ourselves, “How did I get here?” I like that question because it causes us to set the stage for new beginnings.

If you think back to a time in your past, before the negative cycles, you’ll probably reflect on a memory when you came into agreement with some negative words, thoughts or deeds that you actually came into agreement with for your life. Whether it was in jest or not, you spoke it. Perhaps you have heard the old adage, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue”. In fact, that is a scriptural text found in Proverbs 18:21. The rest of it states that “Those who love it will eat its fruits”. The fruits referred to are the fruits of your lips, the words you speak.

There is another adage which goes something like this, “If you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done”. All this requires change and a purposeful effort. Why not leave the negative thought patterns, words and/or people in 2018? Let today be the day you set the stage for new beginnings by making some positive declarations of change over your life.
