Missoula Compost

Missoula Compost Helping Missoulians reduce waste in an efficient, reliable, & environmentally safe way!

Our mission is to provide the greater Missoula area with the resources to properly dispose of their compostable waste. We do so by offering Missoula businesses and residents a way to safely store waste, and provide the transport to our local Garden City Compost. Our company can assure clients that their food and yard waste is going somewhere where it will be handled appropriately, without causing

harm to the environment or contributing to global warming. We hope that by working together as a community, we can meet Missoula's waste reduction goals in an efficient and environmentally safe way.

We are so excited to highlight a small, intentional business that offers in-home and prepared small-batch cooking to local Missoulians — Ashen Ella Homestead! Not only does Ashen Ella Homestead share seriously mouth-watering recipes and homesteading tips, she also packages all of her products in fully compostable containers, sourced from Missoula Compost! Here's what Ashen has to say about why making the switch to compostable packaging was so important to her:

"Sustainability has always been really important to our business. We're huge supporters of zero-waste initiatives, reusing what you have, and making intentional choices that reduce waste whenever possible. Even before working with Missoula Compost, we offered compostable containers, reusable glass containers with bamboo lids, and also encouraged customers to bring their own containers when they preferred.

For us, choosing to work with Missoula Compost felt like a natural fit because supporting local initiatives and local businesses is a huge part of our brand values. We deeply believe in building stronger local systems — whether that's through Montana-grown food initiatives like 33x33, sourcing locally when possible, or supporting businesses that are actively making a positive impact in our community.

What Missoula Compost is doing is incredibly important, and honestly, it's really special for a small growing business like ours to be connected with a company making such a meaningful difference locally. We're grateful to be a small part of that mission."

Check out for some seriously good food and to support a business that puts sustainability and community first!

Customer Spotlight: Pathlabs 💻

You may already know that Pathlabs is a Missoula-based digital media company — but did you know they're also composting champions? We're thrilled to spotlight as a shining example that composting can work in any office or workspace!

Pathlabs has been composting their breakroom scraps and coffee grounds with us since March 2023. We sat down with Pathlabs employee Elsa to hear what she thinks about the partnership.

What motivated Pathlabs to make the switch to composting?

"Pathlabs switched to composting to cut down on waste and be more environmentally friendly. We love the city and state we live in, and Montana's natural beauty is something we want to help protect. It was a simple way for us to make a positive impact and support more sustainable habits across the company."

What positive changes have you noticed since implementing composting?

"Since implementing composting, we've noticed less waste going to the landfill and more awareness around sustainability within the company. It's also been rewarding knowing we're doing our part to help protect the place we call home."

We asked our drivers what their favorite part of the job is. Spoiler: it's not the compost.

Dogs, cats, horses, and the occasional peacock — Missoula, your animals are out here making our drivers' days. So if you need another excuse to start composting, do it for your furry (or feathered) friend. They look forward to seeing that green truck more than you know. 🐾😁
