*Nature School Programs for ages 4.5-12
*Kinderpack retailer (carriers for infants- preschoolers)
*Missoula Event Shuttle/ Missoula Outings and Experiences
*Babywearing Movement Classes, Education & Carrier Rentals through Missoula Babywearing Library We are Jacole Johnson and Travis Cole, 4th generation Montanans living in Missoula with our 2 young daughters. Our Nature School is located between

Orchard Ave and Miller Creek Road (between Briggs St and the Miller Creek roundabout.) Growing Up Green Nature School offers a PreK program for children 4.5 to 6. We’ve embraced the ideas of Forest Kindergartens, Nature-based learning, the Reggio Emilia approach, and Waldkindergartens as a guide in the creation of our environment. Our holistic, child-centered curriculum nurtures the student across all domains of development. Our 5:1 child/teacher ratio allows us to better meet the individual educational and emotional needs of our students. We emphasize purposeful and productive play experiences and focus on strengthening children’s social & emotional intelligence. In addition to the time we spend in nature and exploring the community, we also offer many of the traditional preschool learning opportunities in our indoor classroom and large Salish-made tipi. As Missoula’s only Certified Babywearing Educator, Jacole works closely with parents of young children to teach proper carrying techniques and assists in finding the carrier option that works best for their family. Small group classes and individual consultations are offered. Jacole also offers safe, effective, and fun Babywearing workout opportunities for moms and their infants/toddlers. We are Montana's only Kinderpack retailer, which are high-quality, ergonomic carriers available in a variety of patterns and sizes (Infant through Preschool) and they’re handmade by work-at-home parents right here in the USA! We will deliver for free in Missoula and offer a local discount! Visit growingupgreenmissoula.com/shop to view our current inventory! Growing Up Green is also home of the Missoula Babywearing Library, a non-profit program offering low cost baby carrier rentals and education. To learn more, join our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/MissoulaBabywearingLibrary/! Another passion of ours is helping individuals take control of their physical and emotional health with a variety of wellness products and solutions. We would love to discuss your goals with you and assist on your path to improved health! We are active in many community organizations and love attending family-centered events. Look for our booth at events around town and mark your calendars for our annual Halloween Costume Swap! Our goal is to reconnect families to nature and provide experiences that elevate health, bring families together, promote bonding, and support a sustainable future. We look forward to expanding our services, offerings, and the Growing Up Green Community for years to come.

On the evening of July 24, our Nature School tipi was destroyed by the derecho that hit Missoula. We want to thank everyone who reached out or sent us well wishes after the storm. For those wondering how to help, we are humbly sharing our Go Fund Me link and information about upcoming work days to assist with damage to fences and downed/uprooted trees.

Unfortunately the tipi is destroyed beyond repair. Due to the recent extreme weather patterns our area has been experiencing, we have chosen to go another direction with our indoor school space. More info is on our donation platform:

Our Venmo is growing-up-green

In addition to losing the tipi, 20+ mature trees were blown down throughout our school campus. We are planning to host 2 upcoming work days on:
•Sunday September 8 from 3-7pm
•Wednesday September 11 from 4-8pm
We will be cleaning up branches, rebuilding fences, and moving stumps. We’re also hoping to find a few volunteers to hang out with children whose parents are helping.

Please let us know if you are able to be part of either work day. We do not expect folks to stay for the entire timeframe, but any time within those hours you’re willing to come by would be much appreciated.

It takes a village, and we are incredibly grateful for the one we are blessed with. Thank you for supporting us and Growing Up Green Nature School!

Yes, it’s true that Kindergarten has transformed into First Grade. Yes, children will need to learn academics, listen and sit still. But that certainly doesn’t mean that these lessons should be straight-jacketed onto them in the toddler and preschool years. In fact, the funneling down of structured learning is all the more reason to let children play while they can. We must fiercely protect this precious, ever shrinking window of time for our children.

Play is enough. Play is enough. Play is enough. This should be our educational mantra for the first 5 years.
