As in most cases with package bombs, if you do not try and open the package, but stay away from it, you normally will be quite safe. I teach security and mail room staff on how to deal with letter and package bombs, as I always start the class, I tell them if you follow what I am saying you will not be harmed by a bomb delivered to your home and or business. Just in the few hours since this bomb and the second one they rendered safe, there have been over 5 suspect items found in the nearby area to include other schools in the area. All were found to be false alarms, or perhaps a better word is harmless. This happens all the time after a bombing, and expect copy cats to, not making bombs but calling in threats.to cause evacuations and scare people. Learning how to deal with bomb threat is a skill that anyone can be taught, and each company or University needs to have someone on staff or that they can call to help you through a threat. To the person taking the call or email, it can be one of the scariest things they have ever been involved in, so getting information to them is critical. The first thing I tell people is that the caller wants you to tell someone so your are pretty safe at that moment. Then give them a number to report the incident too. Calling the Police is always an option, but the Police have a series of actions they must take when a threat is reported to them. A trained person can often quickly figure out if a threat is real or not. This will help you make good decisions, which still could be call the police and evacuate the building. But after this happens five times, you need to figure out a better response.
