Do-Re-Mi!?!? Music, Books, Murals - Such an honor to work with on their 100 year celebration!
This was a dream project… I was asked to create a mural to celebrate the Minot Symphony Orchestra turning 100 - the symphony is a magical magical thing…and we are the Magic City… so I created “The Magic Symphony” mural! In the heart of historic downtown Minot - you can now jam on a piano, play some trumpet, flute, clarinet and try to play the 15ft upright bass…most of all - you can now bebop down 1st Ave… too much fun.
ON TOP of THAT - ON TOP of an ALReaDY DREAM Project… They asked me to make a third installment of my NoDak kids books. So incredibly proud to introduce “Do-Re-Mi-Oh-YAH?-UFF-DA-Ope: The NoDak Do-Re-Mi’s!”
This book has all the whimsy and ND silliness as the other books, but is also full of musical terminology to help kids learn their music and teach them our goofy Nodakisms. Harmony is a tater tot in a tater tot Hotdish. It’s also interactive! Anyhoo - best part - All the money from this book benefits The Minot Symphony Orchestra to keep making magic!!!

Hello Citizens Alley! Newest coolest most hippest most nicest place to be in Minot - everyone waves hello under the twinkle lights. It’s nice.
So excited to be a part of this new creative hub nested in the heart of downtown. Food trucks, pickleball, b-ball, live music, trains, art, cozy green space for eating snacks, movie nights, splash pad, skywalk and just good vibes all around.
I was asked to illustrate the entryway to the space - a welcoming 100 ft of what I thought a Thursday night might look like in the alley - and I couldn’t help but smile creating this thing. Lots of cool bebopp’n citizens - and dogs and cats - having a good time. Felt like home.
Shoutout to - - and everyone who made this project come to life. This is a very special thing that was just made for us here in Minot. Very grateful.
Oh yeah - Thursday, August 28th - 5:30- 7:30 - they are having a “meet the artists” night showcasing all the murals and artwork that was created for the space. So come down and chat me up - buy some new prints - let’s hang out and eat at the Star Wars food truck. It’ll be sweet!

Yeehaw! ART! Not my first rodeo - proud to finally get to show off my work on my home turf!
I’m the featured artist at for the Summer - this turned out to be a really fun way to show off dang near my entire collection of prints AND - my collection of oil / acrylic pieces that were on display at the State Capitol last winter!
It’s up for a while - you can buy prints and paintings and other merch right off the walls. There’s a few of the big pieces still up for grabs. The “Holy Cow” has been sold - so sorry.
Oh - AND - I got to make the poster for Atypical s 6th Anniversary bash - it’s happening this weekend - AND - I’m playing tunes Friday night with my band Wild Hands!

BUFFALO! LASERS! TOURISM! MAX! 💥
The North Dakota Travel Industry Conference was held in Minot this year - every year they get a different hometown artist to create the special awards to be presented by the Governor - and in front of all the movers and the shakers making our great state great. Long story longer - I was asked to make the 2025 awards!!!
This was a huge honor for me - thank you for the ask. Very humbled to be making these prestigious little dudes for such inspiring people!
Anyhoo - this was the award! Got to jump into the unknown of woodcut, lasers - painting wood - 3D - plaques - glue - and everything in my design back pocket.
Love how they turned out. Going to venture into this 3D world a little more - it was pretty cool. Dabbled in making some fish and little wheat things. So many possibilities!?!??
Anyhoo - congrats to all the winners! Another feather in the cap was our “Why Not Minot?” Project was nominated!
I love art and trying new stuff out…thanks people for trusting me. I’m going to go laser more things now!

“LOOK MA - I’m on PBS!” Honored to get to share my real-life North Dakota music on Prairie Public Television TONIGHT!
I forget - you guys kinda know me more as Art Max - BUT - I used to be just Music Max. I’ve been writing and singing songs since I was a young kiddo - traveled the country playing music with lots of bands - most of that time was playing with my band WILD HANDS - also had a little stint playing drums in an old timey country band. Music was my way to travel the country and meet amazingly creative people and live a bunch of fun life experiences (don’t ask me about the moonshine in the mountains of Johnson City, Tennessee)
Anyhoo - I got to play on Paste Magazines DAYTROTTER - played a sold out show at the Turf Club with Charlie Parr in St. Paul - Kinda headlined a festival with Everclear & The Cherry Popp’n Daddies - got to play on radio stations, TV shows BUT probably most of you know me from my 100 show Summer stints out in the Wild West in Medora.
Long story longer - I am a musician and sometimes I still get to play music. I wrote some new tunes and got to do a 30 minute live show on PBS - AND it airs TONIGHT (4/17/25) - I wrote some new stuff for the show, played some oldies but goodies - and you can watch me mumble about some stuff…not much of a talker on TV…it is what it is…I hope it’s charming!?
Catch the show on TV - or you can watch it on YouTube - I will share the link in my bio - ALSO: go in a deep dive of music listening and stream all my music on all your streaming services - if you all listen to a few songs tonight I might be able to buy a beer. Play less music these days, but still love playing. Happy I get to share a little more with you all.

🍀 It’s St. Paddy’s ——— agh, shoot… it was St. Paddy’s day - well, I missed it, but here is a green cat.
PLUS - some very fun illustrations I did for our local, fan favorite Irish pub - Ebeneezers! Home of the “Fat Frog” - which is every deep fried item on the menu stacked on top of each other. Awesome.
In between all these big mural gigs and book making adventures I go on - I do a ton of fun little illustration gigs in between. This is for their live music calendar they put up each month.
They told me to just have fun - and that I did. It ended up being just a great little outlet of how I was feeling each month…a little fun - just - drawing. This might sound bad, but I made it a goal to create these with very little thought…just go and draw and not overthink it. Just heart. Great warm ups, which ended up producing a ton of cool images for prints and things and made for fun little cartoons to put on each calendar month!
Anyhoo - I’ve been meaning to share these - it was cool to see how the year turned out. Thinking I might have to make Art by Max calendars for next year? NoDak months? Hmm… dreaming and scheming.

BOARD BOOKS ARE BACK!!! & so proud to announce The NoDak 1.2.3’s is now available in BOARD BOOK! Oh “4” CUTE!
For the little destructor wildling kiddos in your life - the NoDak ABC’s and 123’s are available in board book - these little brick books are built tough and can be ridden like a skateboard and chomped on for lunch and still hold up pretty good yah? Yah.
Couple of cool things - I can’t believe this is real - this is the 5th Edition of The NoDak ABC’s - which is a huge milestone for me - I was shooting for 2 editions maybe…so I’m just swimming in a bowl of happy knoephla soup over here and just so thankful for all you lovely people who support me and my art and my dreams.
You can buy these books at right now - in Fargo - AND they are on their way to a bunch of other stores around the state! You can also snag them on my website right now!!!
Speaking of website - My online print shop will be up in a few weeks too! So you can buy all your favorite drawings of dancing bison and rock ‘n’ roll bear art prints very very soon!
Anyhoo - very proud today - I will keep making these books until every North Dakota kid owns one…and grown up NoDak kids too! Thanks again -

All you need is love…and spooky skeletons…and shrimp.
Buncha love prints and that first one is a little illustration I did for With Room Coffee for their February menu. You can find a bunch of these prints scattered around NoDak!
Plus - my lovely wife and kiddo made me the best valentine… I love shrimp. Shrimp is bugs…but also the key to my heart.

WHY NOT!?!?! MINOT!!! My heart is very full.
Minot is my hometown - born and raised - homebase for me and my lovely family - and I am always amazed at this community - and just very very proud to call this home. So this project was very dear to my heart.
I am very honored to have been able to reimagine and relaunch our hometown slogan and work on this campaign celebrating the Minot spirit.
I got to create this funky new logo - create animations for a very cool campaign launch video made by - you can check it out - ALSO - got to help create a new campaign with our city “vibe” - SISU - Scandinavian roots and Finnish word for basically: “we make the best of what we get” if it’s snowing outside we go sled - so fun. AND I got to make a HUGE mural downtown - dream job come true.
These are the behind the scenes and test footage and a bunch of fun stuff I made to help create the project.
Love Minot - love our community- glad to have our slogan back! Thanks for trusting me on this project! I hope I made Minot proud! AND remember - the question is the answer - WHY NOT MINOT?

That’s one cool cover! January…brrr…i is for ice cold…it’s cold out - I’m on the cover of this mag - you get the idea!
Very honored to have one of my favorite (and fan favorite) prints land, swim, skate to the front cover of HEART RIVER VOICE magazine! This is a neat little publication out of Western ND - and they did a lovely feature on all the artsy stuff I’m up to. Very cool - my mom is very proud of me!

NEW YEAR - SAME ME!
Ha. S**e - lots of new stuff going on, BUT - last year was a good one and going to keep on hustling and keep on keep’n on and just do my thing.
NEW YEAR - NEW STUDIO - spent a nice little digital holiday break and created a nice little space for myself in our basement. Found lots of fun collections and treasures in my mess… now on full display!
Big plan this year is to make more art for myself - I have a year’s worth of projects in the works already, but a goal is to make some original art for me…very excited - going to try all sorts of mediums and styles and just try and have some fun…I feel like it will help my creativity and help my big contract projects too! Same funky good vibes art though…just less pressure I hope!?
I’ve kept all my old shoes since 2008…I don’t know…these are from 2018

I have 24 blank canvases - and 4 weird old guitars I might paint.
Found this Bear woodcut thing…got a jigsaw - fun stuff on the way!
