Another special opal project for the same client, this was one of several stones cut from a big chunk of inherited opal. The tail was carved to wrap around the bezel, creating an elegant but safely protected setting. This carving is one the most intricate that I’ve done, and while it took a lot of time and planning, it has got me really excited to do some more carving. I’ve got a few shell ideas in mind next!✨🐚✨

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I’ve been thinking about my mom a lot. What she would be doing, what she would think of how we’ve been surviving without her in the almost two years that she’s been gone.

I can’t believe it’s been two years.

She would be busy planting seedlings and cleaning up garden beds, getting ready for a summer full of gardening. I like to think she’d be pretty happy with how we’ve been navigating life without her physical presence. I know that she is never truly gone, but damn does that void she left still seem to be as vast as the universe.

I’ve taken some time away from the studio this winter to try and heal the burnout that always seems to find me at the end of the holiday rush. I hear her in my ear telling me to slow down and take care of myself. That if I don’t do it now, it will never happen.

So I’ve been leaning in. To slow mornings, long weekends, midweek days at Sugarloaf. Slowly rebuilding that fire inside that drives me to create.

Creativity is not something that just happens. You can’t just put your head down and push through when your soul is exhausted. So I’ve taken the time to rest and heal so I can come back with that fire and passion.

I’ve got several new pieces lined up that I’ll be sharing over the next few months in preparation for a busy show season. Until then, there are lots of pieces in stock on the website for any Mother’s Day gift ideas.
