A little life update from behind the banners 💗
I realized that although I’ve shared plenty of my work on this page, I’ve never really taken the time to introduce the person behind it all!
Hi, I’m Lexi! AKA Lex, Lexi-Lou, Suze, Suzie Q, Sally, Alexius- depends who ya are! 🤣 I’m the gal behind Big Bubble + Banners by Lex. Outside of painting banners and creating all the fun things, I’m a wife, a mom, a sister, a friend, a beer-league softball player, and someone who somehow always seems to have about 47 things going on at once. 😂
I also have a degree in Biology, which feels a little ironic when I think about it, because so much of what I love most in this world comes back to life — flowers, animals, and getting to live this crazy, beautiful life with the best people. 🌸🐅💛 Maybe that’s why I’ve always loved creating, exploring, staying busy, and finding a little bit of magic in the things around me.
And lately, I’ve been trying to appreciate those things a little more.
If you’ve followed this page for a while, you may have noticed that I haven’t been nearly as active this summer. And for once, it hasn’t been because I’ve been working on a million projects behind the scenes.
I’ve just been living. 💛
This summer brought a new journey in my day job, which has meant lots of changes, learning, growing, and figuring things out as I go. It’s been exciting, challenging, and busy in the best way, and I’ve learned SO much as the summer has gone on.
But when I’m not working, I’ve really made an effort to give more of myself to the people and things that matter most to me.
I’ve spent summer days with my family. I’ve watched my little guy experience the world and tried to soak up all of these little stages that seem to go by way too quickly. I’ve played softball, laughed with friends, gone on little adventures, enjoyed summer nights, took a couple trips, spent time with the people I love, and sometimes done absolutely nothing productive at all.
And I’m learning that that’s okay. I am VERY much a person who normally says yes to EVERYTHING- so learning to say no and not taking on too much has been so hard for me!
I think sometimes we get so caught up in being productive, building something, making money, checking things off our lists, and constantly moving on to the next goal that we forget we’re allowed to just live our lives, too.
Sometimes the best things in life really are the simple things.
Watching your kid stare out the window at a sunset. Going to the zoo. Playing ball. Planting flowers that refuse to grow. 🤦🏼♀️🤣 Laughing until your stomach hurts with your friends. Spending an evening with your family. Being outside on a beautiful day. Having nowhere you have to be.
They’re the things that might not feel all that important in the moment, but somehow end up becoming the moments you wish you could go back to someday. 🥹
So maybe this is your reminder, too:
It’s okay to slow down.
It’s okay if you aren’t doing everything you used to do. It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to leave something for tomorrow. It’s okay to not turn every free hour into something productive. Sometimes you just need to enjoy the season of life you’re in while you’re still in it. ❤️
With all of that being said, Big Bubble + Banners by Lex isn’t going anywhere! 🎨🫧
I still absolutely LOVE creating, and I’ll continue taking banner orders and doing additional projects. (Stay tuned high school seniors). I’m just going to be a little more intentional about how much I take on at one time. It’s no secret that I’m not the only banner artist in Minot- and that’s okay!
There may be fewer openings. There may be times when I have to say no to an order I would have squeezed in before. And I may not always be posting or creating as constantly as I once did.
I don’t want to become so busy creating a life that I forget to actually live it.
Thank you to every single person who has ordered from me, shared my work, recommended me to someone, or simply followed along. The fact that people choose me to create something for their special moments will never stop being cool to me. 🥹
This little business gets to be something that I love doing, and I want to make sure it stays that way.
So here’s to creating beautiful things, slowing down when we need to, loving our people, and remembering that sometimes the very best parts of life are the simplest ones. 💗
