The tradition continues! Admission to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas will be FREE on Friday, November 26, the day after Thanksgiving.

Extend your holiday by spending time together with a walk outdoors. Research shows that walking offers multiple benefits, from increased creativity and better brain function to more flexibility and stamina.

Thank you for your interest in Wooded Nomad and camping this year!

Wooded Nomad is a small family owned and operated business based in Minneapolis. We are excited to announce that our family has grown by one this month. To ensure that we have enough time to fulfill orders, clean gear, and balance our new responsibilities we will not be able to accommodate last minute rental requests for the next few weeks. In addition, our rental notice requirement has been moved out to 2 weeks. Please place orders early if you are able to.
Thank you for understanding.

READ: Please don’t run from bears or push your slower friends down in attempts of saving yourself.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As a follow-up to a previous post, if you come upon a stationary bear, move away slowly and sideways; this allows you to keep an eye on the bear and avoid tripping. Moving sideways is also non-threatening to bears. Do NOT run, but if the bear follows, stop and hold your ground. Like dogs, they will chase fleeing animals. Do NOT climb a tree. Both grizzlies and black bears can climb trees.⁣⁣ Do NOT push down a slower friend (even if you think the friendship has run its course).
⁣⁣
Stay calm and remember that most bears do not want to attack you; they usually just want to be left alone. Don’t we all? ⁣⁣Identify yourself by making noise so the bear knows you are a human and not a prey animal. Help the bear recognize you as a human. We recommend using your voice. (Waving and showing off your opposable thumb means nothing to the bear) The bear may come closer or stand on its hind legs to get a better look or smell. A standing bear is usually curious, not threatening.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Find more tips, check out https://www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/index.htm

P.S. We apologize to any “friends” who were brought on a hike as the “bait” or were sacrificed to save the group. You will be missed. ⁣⁣

COVID-19 BUSINESS UPDATE:
Like most small businesses it has become necessary for us to make modifications to our business this year. For the 2020 camping and hiking season our retail store will be closed to protect ourselves, our community, and our campers. We will however still be offering fantastic gear and equipment rentals. Items are available for FREE front step delivery and pickup within the Twin Cities area. Reservations can be made online or over the phone. While it’s important for all of us to stay safe and physically distanced from each other, it is equally important to take time to mentally and emotionally reboot, recharge, and relax. We are here for you if you need us.

It’s gonna be a great time!! Come join us.

Surly Darkness Day (as featured in today's Star Tribune) is this weekend. Online ticket sales end at noon Thursday, so if you're sitting on the fence...well, for one, that sounds wildly uncomfortable, and for two, get yours at the link. https://fal.cn/349MY

This was a blast last year and we are looking forward to it again this year. Go sign up to win a pair of tickets!!

This was a blast last year and we are looking forward to it again this year. Go sign up to win a pair of tickets!!

[UPDATE: Our winner is Damian Loehrer. Thank you to everyone for participating, and we look forward to partying with all of you at Darkness Day!] The State Fair is over. Labor Day is long gone. That means it is finally time for Darkness Day, Sept. 27 and 28 at the Somerset Amphitheater. We have a pair of weekend passes to give away (includes admission to Friday’s Dawn of Darkness Beer Festival, Saturday’s Darkness Day celebration, three bottles of 2019 Darkness, one bottle each of the three 2019 Darkness Variants, and your own dang campsite--each pass is a $200 value). If you’d like to win them, reply to this post, tag who you’d bring, and tell us what you’re looking forward to the most: the bottle share, one of the bands, the giant bonfire, drinking some of the finest beers known to humankind under the sun and stars with your friends, etc. We’ll select a winner Friday morning. Must be 21 to win and have a valid email address so we can send you your tickets. Good luck, and check the link for all the details on our favorite day/weekend of the year. https://fal.cn/33UV4
