Lutherie Lab

Lutherie Lab Builders and dealers of quality stringed instruments in Minneapolis, MN Luthiers have a place to connect and learn with their colleagues.

Lutherie Lab is a violin shop that supports a vibrant community of luthiers, players, and friends. Lutherie Lab is especially focused on the instrumental journey of our community members - players and luthiers alike. To this end, we bring immersive experiences that engage in the history, glory and wonder of their instrument. Players learn about their instrument from the inside out. Our in-person a

nd virtual workshops and special events build community and confidence amongst ourselves and with our instruments. Founder, entrepreneur, and violin maker Jennifer Creadick operates Lutherie Lab from her workshop in Northeast Minneapolis. Her roots in the violin industry are deep, beginning with the public-school orchestra program in Wilmington, North Carolina. She then spent four years as a student of award-winning maker Edward C. Campbell in Pennsylvania, where the acoustic research of Carleen Hutchins was also highly respected and practiced. Summer workshops in acoustics with Carleen Hutchins, violin restoration with Vahakn Nigogosian at the Oberlin Workshops, and bow repair with Lynn Hannings at the University of New Hampshire broadened her education. Back again in North Carolina, she and her late husband Nowell Creadick worked together in their full-service violin shop, Chapel Hill Violins, until his death in 2015. She continued running the business and began traveling widely to study historical instruments, learning more about auctions and markets, bow restoration and varnish. She is immensely grateful for the support, mentorship, and encouragement received from the violin community during this challenging period of her life. Thanks to
Joe Thrift, Rodney Mohr, Fred Oster, Reginald Williams, and Matthew Fritz.. In March of 2020, now living in Minneapolis, she decided to give full-time violin-making a go. The bench during the pandemic summer of 2020 was a pretty lonely place. That loneliness however, was the mainspring for her to reach out for support. She was virtually introduced to New York City violin restorer Jeemin Morgan Kim and together they founded Women in Lutherie, a global, in-person and virtual community of women luthiers. These women became the doulas that inspired and empowered me through the birth of my new company, Lutherie Lab. Jennifer currently sit on the board of the directors of the Violin Society of America and the Minnesota Sinfonia. She is a violinist with the Northeast Orchestra in Minneapolis. She is a volunteer with the Live Music Project. She is learning more about her new city as an active member of the City of Lakes Rotary Club. "I believe in the energy of collaboration. The instruments that are offered through Lutherie Lab - from our student instruments, from own bench, and from our curated collection in The New Golden Gallery - have been built with a nod of tradition and science, a creative spirit, and quest for beauty in sight and sound." ~ Jennifer

Sofia Vettori, THANK YOU for your incredible support and guidance in getting my workshop and chops back to FINISH a violin. I was sidetracked too long from my intentions!🫨😁 Violin making is generally a solitary, creative process and especially your weekly small group "Lutherie Mastermind Live" workshop gives me comraderie, accountability and confidence. I love it and meeting my colleagues there for mutual support. See you Wednesday! 😁❤️🎻
