Article about The People's Museum For Prince in Southwest Voices π The People's Museum for Prince - Opening Day will be held at Roberts Gallery on Sunday, June 7th.
Art in this exhibit will also be exhibited at Capri Theater & ColorWheel Gallery "Local artist Tammy Ortegon is dedicating some space at her ColorWheel Gallery (319 W. 46th St.) to The People's Museum For Prince which means the Southside will be represented, as well. Ortegon has Prince-inspired artworks of her own going back many years, including her βRaspberry Beretβ painting, which she finished a few months after Prince passed. It was installed in 2017 as a wrap on an outdoor utility box at 38th St. and Park Ave. (as part of Project Purple, initiated by the Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization).
She also created a coloring book titled βRated P 4 Funkyβ and occasionally hosts pop-up purple coloring parties (next is June 6). At one such gathering in April, featured guest Stephanie Carlson shared stories of being in grade school and middle school with Prince βSkipperβ (as he was known then).
βHe was really into superheroes, and he thought he was going to be a graphic or drawing artist for many years,β she told the group. Reading from a three-ring notebook with Princeβs symbol on the cover, Carlson shared some of Princeβs writing assignments β a story about superheroes set in the year 2967, his joy of jumping in piles of leaves, Prince as a silver dollar β offering playful glimpses of his early humor and creativity."

Prince on the Southside! We're excited to announce ColorWheel Gallery as our Southside Satellite partner, and grateful to Voices journalist Jill Walker Boogren for this beautiful feature on the People's Museum.
The first week of June, the Twin Cities will be awash in purple as fans, community and the Prince-curious celebrate what would have been his 68th birthday (June 7), 10 years after his passing. β¦
