Group ride leaves Sociable Cider, explores the city for about an hour, and returns for free cider. It’s lovely. 😁

Probably you’ve already enjoyed the new Plymouth Bridge bike/ped tunnel. We’ve been using it since last fall. But now it’s officially open!

The new tunnel helps keep riders and runners from crossing paths with cars coming off of the Plymouth bridge, which can really be moving. The tunnel also provides a more direct route through Boom Island for commuters along the river. This will make an even bigger difference after the Marshall St reconstruction in a few years.

Join us for Coffee (Outside) on Sunday at 10:00am. We’ve had so many new people lately that I’m starting to feel obligated to mention that we don’t have coffee. We do bring treats to share, but I personally have never been a coffee drinker, so…yeah. But do feel free to bring your own. Lots of people do.

Everyone is welcome at 9am yoga at the bike shop. It’s free. And we’ll go for a community ride after Coffee (Outside) at 11ish. See you tomorrow!

Summer is here! And there’s nothing better than meandering rides with the best people. Come be one of them every Wednesday at 6pm. Meet us at Sociable Cider for the best social ride in the tri-county area.

Thank you, for your reliable contributions 🚲. Apologies to who picked the best spot and still got cut out of this photo.

To paraphrase his daughter, Marko Fields packed a single life with an encyclopedic volume of stories and lived experience. But nothing he did has had more of an impact on me than Mojo Coffee Gallery, where he brought his passions (music, pottery, and most of all people) and put them on display for all to see.

Of course you could purchase many of Marko’s pieces, but Mojo has that lived-in feel of a working studio where a person has shaped and been shaped by an entire career. Mojo is part retail art gallery, part workshop and rehearsal space, and entirely Marko’s playground.

The people that inhabit Mojo on a regular basis meld perfectly with the collection of mismatched dining room and office chairs, each person adding to the decor. But every time I encountered Marko here, he stood out, not like a sore thumb, but like a king, presiding (benevolently) over his own court.

Mojo is one of the looms upon which the fabric of community is woven. Each of us regulars, a thread in that fabric. But Marko, in that space, appeared to be the wearer of whatever cape was being woven. Even as Mojo feels like ours, it was unmistakably Marko’s.

To me, Mojo is a rare perfect third space. For Marko, Mojo may have been first, second, and third space: home, work, and community gathering.

On this Memorial Day weekend we’ll do Coffee Outside of Mojo (Sunday 10am). But I encourage everyone to enjoy the inside of Marko’s coffee gallery too. It was his project and his contribution. Even in his absence Mojo remains Marko’s. But Marko succeeded in also making it ours.

As usual…

Introducing SPARCLE May 16, 8:15pm
An Art-a-Whirl Night Ride

Light up the Night! We’re trying something big here. Meet us behind Recovery Bike Shop after close on Saturday night May 16. At sunset we will head out to light up the Arts District!

We have a handful of surprises in store and we’re REALLY looking forward to starting a new tradition.

In the meantime, decorate your bike with every light you own. Buy some more lights now. Borrow lights from your boring friends who won’t be riding with us.

Or come to the bike shop after 6:00 Saturday for free lights from us (while supplies last).

This year’s theme is Disco Cowboy. Do with that what you will. Go nuts. I know you will make us proud.

Ride departs at 8:15pm Saturday May 16!

This will be epic.

(Also, we’re loaning out bikes throughout Art-a-Whirl. Stop by the shop to check one out.)

(Also also, The Flux Arts Building (Monroe & Lowry) will help you get ready for the ride all day Friday and Saturday. Stop by for all kinds of free costume options: belt buckles, trash chaps, helmet decorating, and on and on.)

Full schedule of interactive options on the website. Link-in-bio.
