New plant alert! 🚨 We've added the Scarlet Bee Balm for Spring 2021 ordering! Scarlet Bee Balm not only stands out color-wise, but you'll quickly find out that they're magnets for hummingbirds and bumblebees. This is one of the few cultivars we offer since pollinators are just as attracted to its nectar as it is to the original Bee Balm 🦋 We also have the original Bee Balm which is a light purple color.

These two dainty ladies are White Lady’s-slipper Orchid flowers found on a hike last summer. They currently are an endangered wildflower that can be found at the edge of forests and are pretty tough to establish. Hope to grow these and aid in the repopulation efforts around MN in the future 🤞

Let’s talk pollinators (pt.2)! 🦋 this is the American Painted Lady, which is a common pollinator found throughout the US. They’re best known for the “eyes” 👀 near the ends of each wing. The main host plant to feed larva are Pearly Everlasting (pic 2).

Let’s talk native pollinators! We saw a couple of these in Minneapolis this summer 🦋 The Karner Blue butterfly is an endangered pollinator that has a range through some of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes states and the northeast US. ⠀
⠀
Wild Lupine is an essential host plant to Karner Blue larva. If you’re looking to host Karner Blue you’ll need to make sure you have plenty of lupine in one area + access to a water source + a shaded canopy nearby for shelter + a decent amount of nectar sources.

This is a Fourth Instar Monarch Cat. The tentacles are about 3x longer at this stage than the Third Instar. They also have pretty large 💩

Thinking of raising Monarch Caterpillars this summer? This cat is in the third instar larva stage. This is the stage where they start “playing possum” if touched or dropped on the ground
