We recently sat down with Keili, general manager of 9th Street Soccer & Coffee, to learn more about the story behind the shop & the community they’re building. ⚽☕️

From the beginning, 9th Street has been about creating a welcoming space where people can connect over coffee, soccer, & shared experiences. Whether you’re stopping in for your morning drink, catching a match, or meeting new people, there’s a strong sense of community behind everything they do.🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

They also host tons of community-centered events throughout the year — from watch parties to late night hangs! Something big they’ve got coming is a live band & salsa dancing lessons during the World Cup!🏆

The coffee bar stays open until 9pm, but the space often stays lively until midnight.🌙

We’re excited to officially welcome 9th Street as a new partner in the Coffee Compass. Compasses will be available in-store starting early June, so make sure to check them out and show them some love. ✌🏼

A quick recap on their story—Jenny & Savio started with a trailer at Midtown after countless applications & some rejections from multiple markets. Most people would’ve stopped. They didn’t. They believed they had a place in the coffee scene—and built it anyway. Their journey started with them partnered with VSAM at the U of M, supported local charities, and even helped raise money for a friend with cancer. Word spread. Soon they were regulars at Mill City Farmers Market (& still are every Saturday).🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Feb 17, 2024 → first shop on France📍
 March 7, 2026 → second location downtown🌇

And now we’re here.

I took the Green Line over Wednesday morning—
It’s lively. People grabbing coffee before work. Catching up before the day starts. Light rail bells ringing, espresso being pulled, & the Neon Càphin glowing.The shop itself is smaller—but don’t let “express” fool you. It’s not limited, just faster. Online ordering too. Perfect if you’re always on the go.🧳

BUT IF YOU STAY-outlets at every table & there’s even more seating in the lobby. Lots of local art, & you’ve been to Linden Hills—you’ll notice the start of their community/pupper wall again.🐶

Same energy just in a new space✌🏼

 FINAL THOUGHTS:
It’s 5-min walk from my office & a quick train from my apartment. I’ve already started dropping in on Wednesdays & Fridays—and it’s becoming part of the routine. Watching this team grow from trailer to this has been unreal & pretty damn motivating. Top-tier coffee, incredible people, & super accessible. Go support them!👍🏼

As I walked in today I heard Lainey Wilson playing, bright rays of sunlight coming from main street side windows, & the aroma of freshly toasted pastries. The hardwood bar, leather armchairs, the mini cow stools/poufs, & a welcome to the rodeo neon sign really gave the shop a southern/country feel.🤠

This morning I had the pleasure of speaking with Jessica (front-end owner)🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Beans & Boots has their beans roasted from Tapestry Coffee in Lakeville. They’ve got scones, muffins, & even pop tarts from . They’ve quite the variety of both pastries and specialty drinks to pair with them.🧑🏻‍🍳

Words of Wisdom from Jessica: “Know Your Community & know what you’re getting into” From listening to their customers preferences, to being connected to their neighbors, to having a dedicated drink that has 100% of its proceeds donated, many of their decisions their first year around has been rooted in & inspired by their community🧠

🤔FINAL THOUGHTS💭
Hey fam, this was a nice stop out in the suburbs. My first impression was the warm hello as I walked in. Saw a lot of happy families with their kiddos, pals meeting for word, & old friends catching up. It’s a cozy space that gives a comfy cabin feel & one that makes you feel at home. My biggest take away was after I asked about parallels from fitness to business (She’s a bodybuilder)-in which she responded with “when you look at someone, you can often see how dedicated they are to their craft. If they put that time into themselves, imagine what they can do for their business-VERY real & yeah, it shows here. Overall great experience today. The staff was kind, the turnaround was extremely fast, & the story was motivating. Great shop, go support them!👍🏼

Huge shoutout to Istanbul & Usrah (staff) and Hikma (regular) for sharing the heart behind the space & culture. Istanbul brings a creative energy to the drink ideas, while Usrah is dialed on ex*****on and balance. Their inspiration comes from art, color, taste, and flavors that remind them of home. They’ve also got an old-school analog community board with frequent events at the event center.🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Nomadic is open until 10pm, and once Ramadan begins, they’ll be open even later — past midnight 🌙

Walking in last night felt welcoming. Friendly staff, thoughtful recommendations, and people genuinely open to sharing about the culture. Hikma even chimed in while we were chatting and added more context around community and giving back — super appreciated. It’s a calm, cozy space that still feels alive. Solid place to work, hang out, & try something new. Great late night spot for the night owls out there, go support them!👍🏼

This afternoon I had the chance to speak with Stephanie & Peter, the owners of Easy Day!🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Imagine Lofi beats playing, whiffs of bagels being toasted, & a cozy wood fireplace keeping things warm in the corner of the shop. Tables were filled, Splatback chairs pulled up for extra seating, a line of customers that was non-stop from 12pm-4pm.🪵🥯

•Grand Opening September 27th, 2025 (soft on 9/22/25)🎉
•Raised over $10,000 for NAMI together through Bike for Psych as one of their first projects together.🚲

With both of them having previous experience in the mental health world, they noticed a lot of parallels & skills that carried over to running Easy Day such as leadership, community building, & most importantly listening. Peter & Stephanie met during the Covid era. After the chemistry & success they had with raising money with NAMI they knew there was something there. “Hey let’s do some crazy stuff together”. Fast forward a few years and they’re 4 months into their very first cafe. They’ve worked & adapted through obstacles, enjoyed & celebrated the wins, & have continued to push each other to not be complacent.💪🏼

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Instantly noticed the tower of boxes of donations for the local community drives, they’re very in tune. It was very busy today, but turnaround time for a drink was one of the fastest around. Lots of traction already & with their backgrounds in mental health, studies in G&F, and focuses in M&A, they definitely have the tools needed to hit their 2 year goals. Recommendations were given, service was pristine, & names were remembered. Easy Day provides unreasonable hospitality, definitely go support them👍🏼

Today I had a chance to speak w/Spencer & Chris-the owners of Thesis.

They have gone to many coffee shops in their day, roast their own beans, & have even been speakers at Coffeefest in Portland. Thesis started with a love for skating paired with the shared enjoyment of coffee & wanting to create a hub for those who felt the same. The space was made for disconnecting from all of the noise & distractions out there-they intentionally have no outlets or wifi to encourage more conversation.🔌

Through their experience it’s not only about what is being served, but how it is presented. Making the drinks at the coffee bar & bringing it to the customer adds another layer to the whole experience. They’ve made some great progress in their first 3 months. Down the road they’re looking to expand to an evening N/A bar & host live music-stay tuned!🥃

Spencer-”Whatever you’re thinking about doing, just do it. Thesis has a lot of similarities with skating, falling down is necessary-go with the mistakes & roll.”💪🏼

I was instantly greeted with a smile. Imagine My Chemical Romance playing, scents of citrus from the garnishes, plywood floors/walls, skateboards on the walls, & the staple Playstation in the corner by the couch, very chill space. The most notable thing about Thesis was their fancy drink presentation combined with them bringing it out to you-unquestionably makes them stand out. Excellent drinks, ambiance, & team-go support them!👍🏼
