My son is the catcher. The pitcher is his best friend. In august of 2020, the pitcher lost his father suddenly. He was also one of their coaches. The boys were 10 years old. It was the hardest thing these boys ever went through. Every now and then, if he gets rattled on the mound, you’ll see him glance over at the dugout… looking for his father sitting on his bucket. My son sees it before anyone else. And he has learned how to calm him down and bring his focus back. I have no idea what he says to him on that mound…. But it warms my heart and makes me so proud to see the bond they have. And to see that even at such a young age, they know that it will always be so much more than a game ❤️

The young man and his family lived across the street from an old couple in 2019. When their health started to decline, the 15-year-old became a regular visitor in the couple’s home, checking up on them every morning before heading to school.
