The Stoneflies are Coming! The Stoneflies are Coming! Wallowa and Grande Ronde Fishing Report

Well, we thought the stoneflies might start hatching earlier this year given the lower flows and warmer water temps and that prediction is coming true. The last few days we have been seeing the big golden stones both upstream and downstream of Minam!

The Grande Ronde is in great fishing shape at 2,060 cfs today and the Wallowa is fishing great right now as well !

Get out your Chubby Chernobyls and Pat’s Rubber Legs and go fish those dry/dropper setups. A double nymph rig with weighted stones will work best the first half of the day, but the trout are beginning to look up more in the afternoons and responding to dries.

The photo looked very similar to Grant's great-great grandpa, "Dad" Wilson who had a pet deer named Deery. Did Beamers Hells Canyon Tours have an old family photo of Grant's family in Hells Canyon? Wallowa and Grande Ronde River Fishing Report:

The intense clouds of the Mother's Day caddis hatch have been gone for about 10 days now, but we are still seeing a good number of caddis out on warm afternoons and Little Yellow Sally stoneflies have been making an appearance as well.

When will the first golden stones appear at Minam this year!?! With a warm spring and limited amounts of snow to melt in the mountains, it would not surprise us to see the golden stones popping out a little early this year. Time will tell.

Trout fishing has been consistently good the past month and if your dying to get some top water action in, some rainbows have been willing to come to the surface, although your catch rate will be higher with a dry/dropper rig or a double nymph rig under an indicator.

The store is open 5 days a week at the moment, Thursday – Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) and we have guided fly-fishing trips available daily. Just call ahead to book. There are a couple seats left for primetime golden stone dates on our 4-day roadless trips on the Grande Ronde. These are prime dates during our best dry fly time of year!
