Blackwater Book Exchange will happily offer credit on paperbacks from the following genres, including – though not limited to: literature (primarily literary fiction and classics), mysteries, science fiction, westerns, romance * and children’s books. Because they do not sell in the store, we do not offer credit for business, self-help, health, cookbooks, history, philosophy, political science, so
ciology, anthropology, psychology, religion, science, music, art, gardening, crafts, nature, transportation, travel/adventure/exploration (narratives, not guidebooks), sports, medicine or computer-related books (unless they were published within the past 18 mos.), romance*, comics, Reader’s Digest Condensed, or trade textbooks, encyclopedias, or outdated materials such as old computer manuals or travel guides. We will however, gladly accept them as donations. We only accept books in very good or better condition. This means the books should not be dirty, torn, creased, stained, water-damaged, or underlined, and they should not have loose pages or detached covers. In other words, we don’t want to accept a book that you yourself wouldn’t buy. We generally do not accept former library books for credit. The only exceptions are some scholarly books (university press) and books that are otherwise hard to find. Books that come from heavy smokers are very, very difficult to sell and will not be accepted. How it Works
We will evaluate your books by condition and salability and determine whether credit will be issued or not. Unfortunately, we can’t accept every book that we see. Subject matter, potential ability to be sold, and our current stock situation all factor in when we decided whether to accept a book for credit or how much credit will be issued (up to 25% of your purchase price). We reserve the right to refuse any book brought in for credit. We do not offer cash for books. Each book that we take gives you store credit which may be applied toward future purchases; offering you an additional 30% off our already low prices. EXAMPLE: a book originally priced at $9.99 will typically be sold for $4.99; with store credit applied, your purchase price becomes $3.49 plus tax. Usually, we sell our books at half of their original sale price; though sometimes we sell hardcover books for less; our minimum sale price is $1.99. Thank you!!
