Insects in Amber. Here is a grouping of Fungus gnats. Amber is a unique way of preserving ancient life. There are several places where Amber can be found in large quantities.
Amber is fossilized tree resin. One can imagine, a branch breaks off a conifer or pine tree. The tree trying to heal that wound begins to exude sap. That piney smell wafts through the air and insects smell it. Thinking there may be food they fly to it and land on it immediately becoming stuck. The sap continues to flow. The insect becomes encased. Over time it covers the insect and hardens. Eventually the sap falls to the ground and begins its long process of fossilization.
We, The Fossil Place online store just received a bunch of Amber with insects and over the next several days we will be listing this and many more for sale.

I've been thinking.....Oh oh.
What if I were to post a fossil a day from the Kchodl Collection of Fossils. Would that be of interest? Now, it may not come every morning, may come in the afternoon or early evening depending on work scheduling but would y'all like that?
Many of the fossils will be from one of our 3 traveling exhibits and some that are in my permanent collection.
The best way to see them everyday is to follow me and like my main page.

Finally, I spent most of the last several days adding fossils to our Online fossil store. I spent most of today doing maintenance on the site removing old sold listings.
Take some time and check out the store. You can search by category or go straight to the recently added page.
We have listed Spinosaurus teeth, Eocene fish - lots of them from Kemmerer, Wyoming, lots of Ice Age mammal to include some really great Cave Bear teeth.
Here is the direct link but feel free to surf the site for Crinoids, Trilobites and so much more.
