Omen began as a creative outlet between friends, grounded in a shared appreciation for black-and-white photography, minimal graphics, and all-black, often spray-painted boards. This balance of craft and aesthetic laid the foundation for the brand’s direction and set the tone for what followed.

In 2014, we began collaborating with the late Scott Anderson, followed by Matt Calvani of Bing Surfboards. From the outset, we focused on working with specialty artists and craftsmen - individuals who brought their own perspective to our goal of building boards designed for local waves and home conditions.

Over time, the project expanded across sessions, films, and creative partnerships—from multiple Log Jam Invitational appearances to Sean Martin’s film featuring Mick Rodgers and Israel Preciado, as well as a series of artist collaborations that kept the work dynamic and evolving. At various points, we paused board production to focus on the storefront, apparel, and film work, allowing the brand to develop across mediums. A network of ambassadors - locally and on other coasts, including Mike Black and Eric Dranginis - have helped carry that momentum into the water.

The Purgatory, hand-shaped by Kevin Tanner, represents a return to Omen’s roots. Launching it alongside team rider and creative partner Andrew Nota, and in conjunction with the opening of Surf Exchange Café, connects a decade of work to a new chapter - one we’re proud to share with the community that’s been part of the journey from the beginning.
