Spotlight on Ken

This is a serious post! Ken needs a foster or foster-to-adopt family and he needs one quickly. He's done with his board and train and his trainer needs his spot for other dogs who need his help. It is also not fair to Ken for him to have to remain there now that his training is completed. Ken needs to be in a home and has needed to be in one for a very long time. Please read his story and then, if you're in CT and can welcome him home, even as a temporary foster, please fill out an application: https://www.allaboutthedogsrescue.org/get-involved

Ken joined AATDR as an 8-week-old puppy. He and his brothers and sisters and mom had been fostered through another rescue. When the foster told the other rescue that they needed to move, the other rescue basically disappeared. We were asked to back them and we agreed.

All of Ken's brothers and sisters were subsequently adopted. Tragically, his mother ended up with a medical condition that required surgery, and she did not survive the surgery.

Ken found a foster-to-adopt home in CT when he was about 8 months old. However, that home did not work out for him and he had to move quickly. He went to boarding for what was supposed to be a short stay, and ended up in boarding for about two years. We posted and shared and networked and begged. No one was able to take our boy into their home. Which seemed really odd to us, because Ken wasn't a "hard" dog.

Recently a family stepped up to foster and we rejoiced. Ken left the boarding facility and went to a home where it seemed likely he would end up being adopted.

Unfortunately, he and the other dog in the home weren't on board with the plan. He had to leave, and went to a board and train program with our friend Todd at Dog Speak. He would learn manners, would have a chance to decompress from being in boarding for all that time, and Todd would be able to give us a full picture of who Ken is and what he needed in a home.

This is what we found:

❗Ken is a wonderful dog who tends to want to be dominant.

❗He needs a strong leader to give him guidance and limits, as well as lots of love.

❗He'll do best in a family with experience with his breed (he's a pit bull type dog).

❗He will do best as an only pet. He reacts somewhat unpredictably to other dogs and will be happiest as the only focus of your attention.

❗He will do well in a home with older (teenaged) children.

❗He would like an active family who is able to take him on adventures and continue his socialization in the big wide world.

To set Ken up for success, Todd, his trainer, will work with the family to ensure that the transition is a smooth one.

Ken will need time in a home to relax and settle in. He will need you to be able to follow the guidelines from his trainer. If you're able to do give him the time he needs and follow the guidelines you're given, you'll be rewarded with a loving, loyal, affectionate friend for life.

Please give Ken the home he needs and deserves! He is a wonderful dog and deserving of the best family ever, forever!
