I have always had a passion for flowers. I offer bouquets, PYO and arrangements, exclusively from my gardens.

I’m not the only one who gets such a rush of joy upon receiving a gorgeous bouquet of blooms, so I started Talcott Ridge Flowery!

My first year of starting a tulip cutting garden! This is how it looked going in and how it looked coming up! Images were taken in November 2024 and April 2025.

My first tulip bed was a ton of work because I had to excavate a new bed from scratch, install 1/4 inch stainless steel mesh, then put dirt on the bottom, then put down the bulbs and put dirt on top from a huge pile I had next to the bed. Took a few days. Removing grass is such a pain!!!

Now since everything is still in place, all I have to do is maintain the weeds, dig trenches, drop the new bulbs in and backfill. Much faster.

I went on the Colorblends website to select tulips for next year’s PYO garden and there were so many beautiful choices that I couldn’t decide and so I went with the “All Everything Tulip Mix” that contains 600 bulbs of at least 20 varieties. They also sent me 100 complimentary grape hyacinth bulbs and so now I have 700 to plant. I planted all 600 tulip bulbs in about an hour.

This reminds me of one of those math word problems, where someone buys an inordinate amount of something, like 900 oranges. lol.

Anyway, I am really excited to see how this looks in spring! I kind of like not knowing exactly what it will look like because it will be a spectacular surprise!

The sunflowers are blooming!! How wonderful it is to witness something from such a tiny seed grow into a beautiful, perfect work of nature. This year I was successful in the sunflower patch because I grew them in seed pods and transplanted them at about 2 inches tall. They also are fenced in with a short fence I got online.

Haven’t posted in awhile due to our new golden retriever puppy Rosie!!! It’s been a big learning curve for all of us. We still love you Houdini, our OG child.
