An Important Partnership to Prevent Crimes in the Community
The Middletown Division of Police encourages local business owners to participate in the Downtown Crime Watch Program designed to help prevent and reduce crime through education and increased communication with law enforcement. This program is a cooperative effort between interested citizens and Police Services striving to improve the quality of life in both the Downtown Business District and the overall community.
Downtown Crime Watch Includes:
• Business owners getting to know each other, taking the time to care about each other, working together in a program of mutual assistance and acting as extra “eyes & ears” for law enforcement.
• Business owners and patrons being trained to recognize and report suspicious activity in the area
• Crime prevention strategies and safety tips being implemented by the entire Downtown Business District
Why Form a Downtown Crime Watch Group?
-There can’t be an officer on every street, so citizen involvement is essential to combat crime.
-You and your fellow business owners are the ones who really know what is going on in the district. By cooperating with each other and law enforcement, you can help fight crime in the most effective way before it begins!
Downtown Crime Watch members place stickers on their windows and post Downtown Crime Watch signs on streets, warning criminals they are in an active Crime Watch area. This demonstrates that the community has taken an active role to further educate themselves on crime prevention and safety principles and to send the message to criminals that “Citizens are watching out for each other.”
