I wear white after Labor Day, and red to interviews. I like a good pair of jeans, and I love a comfy everyday outfit. My style consists of classic, country, trendy, and comfy. I’m getting older (oh wait, we all are) and I’m a little bit of chaos. And yes, I’m a boutique owner. What I’m passionate about is lifting others up so they can break down the lies they have told themselves and do the unimag
inable. The lies we create on what we “can and can’t wear” should be broken by our confidence in ourselves. Confidence is key to any outfit, and it should enter the room before your outfit does. Labels lie. They don’t determine your worth or your beauty. If you have an Extra Large in one top and a Medium in another, it does not make you more beautiful when you wear the Medium. They are the same size, fitting the same priceless you. I started my boutique because I simply wanted to own my own business. My passion has grown, and my focus is narrowing. In my first year in business, I helped find a beautiful woman of a recent mastectomy, an outfit to wear to Derby and still cover her up but feel sexy. I’ve encouraged women to try new fits and they have loved them and looked amazing in them. I’ve helped men shop for their wives by pulling out items that are their wife’s style and they pick from the rack. I’m trying to find pieces that fit a women’s body and are made with quality. I’m still working on this, so bear with me as we journey along. When I do get pieces that are not up to our standards and I can’t return them to the vendor, they are immediately marked as sale items and vendor notes are kept so we don’t purchase from them again. You then get an item at a great price. This year we are going to continue to work on sizing and ordering items that fit women. This is a struggle in the boutique world as the brands often run very small. We are starting to find some great brands that we love and fit XS to XXL. I’m still on the search for a good range of sizes and often get stuck in the S-L sizes, but we are working on it. Ladies, I have been an XS and I have been an XL. I do know the struggles. My size now, is healthy. It’s been a journey and I have fought that scale. I actually don’t know how much I weigh anymore, and my size is a range in tops and bottoms. It has taken me a long time to accept that my size does not determine my worth. I’m still worthy when I’m an XS or an XL. So that is me and that’s how I roll.
