We are currently looking to hire a Class A CDL driver. Deliveries in NC, SC, and VA. Home almost every night. Competitive pay, insurance, 401K and paid PTO. Piggyback/Moffett experience is a plus but not mandatory. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and willing to work in our warehouse when not driving. It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our original owner and President of Southern Seeds, Bill Jones, after a brief illness. Bill has been an active part of Southern Seeds and the Middlesex community for 54 years. Please keep his family and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers. Memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date.

🌱📅 Want a lawn that turns heads? Here’s your quick Tall Fescue Maintenance Schedule to keep your turf thick, green, and healthy all year long!

🌿 Spring
✅ Apply pre-emergent fertilizer early (when soil temps hit ~55°F — usually mid Feb to early March) to stop crabgrass before it sprouts
✅ Mow to 3–4 inches — never remove more than 1/3 at a time
✅ Spot-spray weeds early
✅ Overseed thin spots if needed (if you overseed, skip pre-emergent in that area!)

☀️ Summer
✅ Mow high (3–4 inches) to shade roots
✅ Water deeply & less often — about 1” per week

🌱 SEEDING TALL FESCUE THE RIGHT WAY 🌱
📍 For lawns in the Transition Zone

Fall is prime time to seed turf-type Tall Fescue, and doing it right makes all the difference. Here’s your quick guide to success:

✅ WHEN TO SEED
🎯 Ideal Soil Temps: 60–65°F
🌡️ Ideal Air Temps: 65–75°F
💡 Pro Tip: Mid-September is usually the sweet spot — cool nights + warm soil = perfect germination.

✅ SEEDING RATE
🌾 6–8 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. for bare soil
🌾 3–4 lbs for overseeding established lawns

✅ STARTER FERTILIZER
Use a balanced starter like:
📦 18-24-12 — high phosphorus helps strong root development right from the start.
Apply at 1 lb of phosphorus per 1,000 sq. ft.

✅ WATERING
Keep the soil consistently moist until germination (usually 5–10 days). Then, reduce to deeper, less frequent watering.
