While our circle head rig is definitely optimized for making our circle sawn flooring blanks , it still retains enough versatility to cut some long timber’s
At 25+’ long and 36” on the big end ,this big Fir pushed our limits.

After drying to the proper moisture content in one of our dehumidifier kilns, these quarter sawn fir planks are carefully sent through one of our moulders to be machined into uniform dimension tongue and groove planks.
With 6 cutting heads this machine is able to accomplish multiple tasks in one pass of the wood.

There are very few mills left that cut quarter sawn or vertical grain Fir flooring.
The size of the logs needed and the extra labor required makes it a challenging proposition.
During the glory days of the northwest lumber industry millions of feet of tight grain VG fir and even Larch flooring and lumber was shipped all over the world.

We ran some 5/4” thick kiln dried circle sawn fir lumber today.
This lumber is part of a trim and millwork package for a new dormitory at Washington Family Ranch Young Life Camp in Antelope Oregon.
We utilize our Diehl TFM 46 4 head moulder for milling most of our non flooring patterns.

Busy day at Smiley lumber today.
Sawing some oversized fir into VG Fir flooring blanks and finishing up some circle sawn Larch flush HVAC vents
