Pride is a time to honor the countless individuals who have helped create a more inclusive world and to recognize that everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and loved exactly as they are. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

This month, we’re proud to feature handcrafted ornaments inspired by the colors of the LGBTQ+ and Trans Pride flags, created in partnership with Creaciones Cholita, a women’s cooperative in Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala. These vibrant hummingbirds are symbols of joy, resilience, and the beauty of being yourself.

Wishing everyone a Pride Month filled with love 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

"Hidden Dwelling" is a collaborative textile work between Anitha N Reddy and Siddi quilter Shakeerambi Jamadar.

What follows is an analysis of the quilt's composition from Anitha:

This quilt operates on two simultaneous levels: it may appear symbolic, yet it is fundamentally a highly practical, solution-oriented design structure. The visual language emerges from making—responding to available scrap fabrics, spatial logic, and inherited compositional habits rather than from a predetermined narrative.

1. Structural Framework: Corners and Centre

A defining feature is the four-corner L-like formations, echoed again in the centre.
• The angular, stepped motifs in all four corners function as architectural anchors.
• They act as a framing device, stabilizing the surface visually.
• The repetition of this motif provides structural coherence across the quilt.

In many Siddi quilts, this corner-to-centre logic serves as a visual direction for the maker. The work often begins at the edge or corner and progresses inward. The design is therefore built through movement — edge → border → interior → centre.

The central stepped formation mirrors the corners, creating:
• A sense of containment
• A visual axis
• A structural “excuse” or scaffold to organize surrounding patches

This is not ornamental excess; it is compositional engineering.

Art historian Anitha Reddy describes the meaningful details behind every kawandi quilt made by Siddi women artisans in Karnataka, India.

“May Your Belly Be Full”, a blessing of prosperity and fertility for growing families within the Siddi community. Each quilt is finished with a grain of rice, coin, or other symbolic, yet hidden, token at the center.

Peregrin is proud to have offer a small collection in collaboration with Anitha, now available online.

Ongoing events have made Hebron glass increasingly difficult to source and ship. We’ve been fortunate to receive a small collection through a network of mutual friends of Hamzeh Natsheh’s cooperative in Palestine, now available on our website and at Main Street Marketplace in Amesbury.

These skilled glassblowers transform recycled bottles from local homes and businesses into Phoenician-style pieces with signature swirling hues. Their furnaces are fueled using repurposed motor oil from nearby garages, reflecting a deeply resourceful tradition. Amid the challenges posed by the Israel–Palestine conflict and broader regional instability, continuing this work has become even more difficult.

We invite you to support this enduring craft and the artisans who keep it alive. 🇵🇸🕊
