Someone came by to power-wash the siding on our house. We’d previously hired him two years ago, and he seemed quite interested at the time to find out I cleaned typewriters for a living. So, today, as soon as he arrived, he immediately asked how the business was going. After a thorough explanation on my end, he offered his condolences and mentioned how he’d picked up an electric typewriter for his daughter a few months ago for $15, except it was busted; his daughter is a teenager, very artistic, and felt a little let down that the electric didn’t work.

Before he left, I dipped into my inventory and gifted him a refurbished 1966 Re*****on Sherry Rand 24 to surprise his daughter. Just because I’m closed doesn’t mean I can’t still spread the joy. 🙂

Hi everyone,

Things have been crazy busy, lately. Even though I’m closing the business, that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped repairing—*pro bono* work. (More on that at a later time.)

With my lease up at the end of July, I’m looking to re-home a couple larger items ASAP. All are absolutely free, although they would have to be manually collected from the premises. If anyone is interested, or knows anyone who might be, let me know. All the best! Happy Fourth!

It’s with a heavy heart we update the closure of our shop operations from temporary to permanent. The aforementioned health problems of last year, while apparently dissipating, persist, and my capacity to sustain the degree of endurance necessary for normal 10- to 14-hour workdays has waned.

I always said this business was based on drive, not money; and business has been successful, proving an enterprise of this kind, structured and executed appropriately, can survive (and thrive) in the modern world. Had I the ability to continue, my backlog now would be measured in years, not months. Rest assured, New England needs a fully-dedicated typewriter repair shop. To that end, I support someone taking up the mantle in northern New England, as our location was praised for its easy accessibility as well as its quality of work.

While I don’t plan on giving up the hobby of typewriter repair, my days of professionally churning out machines at breakneck pace are over. Thank you, everyone, for your trust, support, and appreciation.

Anyone who purchased a gift card, please contact for a full refund. Dispersal of inventory will likely take place next year. Sale of shop furnishings (not tools) will be announced forthcoming.

This thing has been in pieces, scattered all around the shop, for a year. Finally cobbled it together, adjusted it, and slapped some brand-new rubber (platen, rollers, feet) on it. The previous owner composed a children’s book with it; unfortunately, I can’t for the life of me remember what it was.

Typewriter-adjacent post (i.e. literacy):

While any time of the year is a good time for giving to the less fortunate, now is the time of year it’s the most reflected upon. Every Black Friday, my wife and I journey to our local Barnes & Noble to make a sizable book donation to the local children’s hospital. It’s my understanding that many B&Ns host similar donation drives. Just about the only thing worse than being ill or injured during this time of year must be the boredom being laid up in a hospital entails. With that in mind, we ask that you contemplate a small donation through your local B&N, or another charitable donation drive, to bring a little happiness to someone in harder times, during this cold, long season.

(FYI: Children’s hospitals serve teenagers as well, and as our local B&N admits, many people forget about teens when making holiday donations, hence all the Penguin Classics, Michael Crichton, etc.)
