I’ve said it before, and I’ll gladly say it again, one of my favorite parts of running Copper Mine Laser Design LLC is getting the opportunity to meet and learn from other local businesses right here in Merrill, Wisconsin.

Recently I had the chance to work with Double State Farms and it was a fun project from start to finish! We teamed up to create their logo and create custom cattle tags featuring their branding. Safe to say those cattle are heading out to pasture with some serious new farm bling now!

When I started laser engraving, I honestly never expected I’d be learning this much about agriculture and livestock. Since opening the shop I’ve had the opportunity to create cattle tags, goat name tags, awards for the Lincoln County Fair, FFA awards, custom signs for duck enthusiasts, and so much more!

And I’ll be honest… I had no idea there were THAT many breeds of cows, goats, ducks, sheep, pigs, and chickens. I thought a cow was just… a cow. The farming community quickly proved me wrong!

To all of the farmers, ranchers, fair families, FFA members, and agriculture businesses that have trusted me with your projects, thank you for letting me step into your world a little bit. I’ve learned far more than just engraving techniques along the way.

I’m happy to engrave customer-provided items, just keep in mind I may ask where it was purchased so I can review the material and ensure it will engrave well. Spring break already feels like it was forever ago… but we’re just now getting back into a normal routine!

We spent a long weekend in Green Bay with family, and naturally our first stop was Dave & Buster’s. Within minutes, my youngest hits a jackpot, because of course he does. Some kids just have that kind of luck.

Shoutout to Grandma for camping out at the machine making sure all the tickets actually made it onto the card… because there was zero chance my youngest was going to stand there and wait with an entire arcade calling his name.

Fast forward to the prize counter… and we somehow leave with a giant stuffed monkey (which is basically two stuffed animals in one) and a massive stuffed bag of noodles... with a face, arms, and legs… because apparently that’s where we’re at with toys these days.

Nothing like driving home with a monkey and a bag of noodles staring you down from the backseat the entire way!

We also spent a day at Lambeau and did the stadium tour. Funny enough, we ended up with the same tour guide we had 10 years ago, Mike. The guy is one of a kind. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and it made the experience just as memorable this time around, maybe even more so getting to share it with the kids.

And of course… hotel pool “swim competitions.” No medals were awarded. It quickly turned into an all-out splash battle, but honestly those are the moments that we love the most.

Just a great weekend full of simple, fun memories.

Now it’s back to reality and the shop has been busy! I’ve been working on a lot of fun projects lately, and I truly appreciate all of you for keeping me going and allowing me to do what I love!

At Copper Mine Laser Design LLC, we’ve seen a growing demand for custom leatherette patches applied to apparel—and we’re excited about it!

However, before officially offering this service, I want to make sure everything meets our standards for durability, quality, and long-term performance.

So… we’re putting it to the test.

This spring, our entire family is wearing custom fleece jackets featuring laser-engraved and laser-cut leatherette patches with our logo. These patches were applied using a heat press (iron-on method only—no stitching), and now comes the real test: daily wear and repeated washing.

And of course, we didn’t stop there...

One of my Carhartt-style jackets is getting the full treatment—heat pressed and stitched. Yes… me, a needle, and thread. What could possibly go wrong?

If you have any sewing tips, I’m all ears!

We’ve also expanded testing across the family to cover multiple real-world applications:

- heat press only
- heat press + stitched combination
- a variety of apparel, including fleece, sweatshirts, and heavy-duty workwear

Over the next few months, we’ll be evaluating what performs best in terms of adhesion, durability, wash resistance, and overall appearance. This hands-on testing ensures that when we launch, we can confidently offer custom patch apparel, branded workwear, business uniforms, and promotional gear that truly lasts.

I’m excited to share the results and continue expanding what we offer at Copper Mine Laser Design LLC.
