We all like to think that the life we've been dreaming of, been working hard towards is right around the corner. That any day now the fruits of all our labors will ripen and we can sit back and enjoy them. As Christians, we are guaranteed this. That not only will our hard work pay off, but our long and faithfully offered prayers will also be answered.

And yes. As Christians, this is something we should draw comfort and encouragement from. The problem is that it doesn't often happen when we want or think it needs to. The fulfillment of hard work and prayer is not always right around the corner. Sometimes it's not even in the same neighborhood.

God wants to give us what's perfect, not just what's "good enough." Perfect takes time. And your desired result or answer to prayer is also going to take time. How much time? The only person who knows the answer to that is God. Waiting in uncertainty is never fun. But waiting on God's perfect result is better than an immediate "good enough" any day.

Being born again does more than unlock the door to heaven. It unlocks the door to a victorious life here on earth.

Yes, heaven is the ultimate reward, and we should all look forward to the day when we stand face-to-face with Him. But we also live in the here and now. We all want to live triumphant lives now--lives free from fear; free from anxiety and depression; free from the disruptive and destructive tendencies of this world; free from the overwhelming burden of sin.

This scripture gives us two clear ways to do this: being born of God and through our faith. When we combine our faith with our salvation there is nothing we cannot overcome. We have victory over all circumstances. Our past is sealed. Our future is secured. And our here and now is one of promised victory.

We all say "amen" at the end of prayers or to agree with the preacher, but do we really mean it? "Amen" at its simplest translates to "so be it." When we say amen to a prayer or to a statement, we are not only agreeing, we are giving that prayer and that statement power and agency to operate in our lives.

Saying "amen" takes the power in any situation from our own hands and yields it to God. It is the same as telling the Lord, "do as You will." It's a word that is casually used, but is actually quite powerful at its core.

So, what situations in your life do you need to say "Amen" or "so be it" or "do as You will" to? Finances, health, family, relationships, hopes and fear? No matter what it is, we have the ability to "amen" it out of our hands in into God's.

Now...can I get an AMEN?

Look, God wants us to trust Him. He wants us to depend on Him. He wants us to diligently seek Him. He wants to be the first and last thing we think about.

The most efficient way for Him to make sure that we are depending on Him every day and not just occasionally is to allow life to rush in on us more quickly and more forcefully than we can handle in our limited human capacities.

Most of us aren't good at keeping God in the forefront of our lives unless and until we feel like we have to because we need His help to get through something that we can't get through on our own. But this isn't the way to keep our relationship with Him healthy and strong.

God wants us any way He can get us. Being closely connected to Him is what is best for us and for our relationship with Him. If He has to let life slap us in the face repeatedly until we learn that He and He alone is our rock then that is what He will do. And He will do it for our good.

Trust is not a token relationship buzz word that can be lightly tossed around as if it has no real meaning. Trust is an active, powerful force. It has agency and requires something of us. It is hard to earn and even harder to give. When it is lost or abused, it can be impossible to fully restore.

There is nothing physical or metaphysical in this world that we can put all of our trust in and be assured that it will not be broken eventually. Nothing, that is, except Christ. When we put our trust in Christ and leave it there (remaining constant is key), we can be confident that He will never betray us in a drunken episode, lie to us, steal from us, talk bad about us behind our backs, throw our past up to us, or leave us.

God is not there for our convenience, and He is not a genie in a bottle. We don't pull Him out just to grant us a few wishes then put Him back on the shelf.

If He isn't your every day God then He isn't your any day God. A relationship with God is an all or nothing deal. The smallest and simplest contribution we can make to the relationship is regular, heartfelt communication.

When you decide to give God control of your life, you give Him permission to put a pause on your life if He deems it necessary.

There are often times when it would benefit us to just stop for a moment and refocus, reassess, and reaffirm. Life and all its complications makes us feel like we can't ever take the time to do that even when our bodies, minds, and spirits are begging us to.

It's times like these when God will absolutely push pause on our lives for us and sit us down somewhere so we can get ourselves together. It is not always comfortable or convenient when He does this; in fact, it is usually very uncomfortable and inconvenient, but fighting against it only prolongs the process. We have to learn to trust God and go with the flow. Let Him rejuvenate us so that we come back stronger.

If God were to fast track us through a slideshow of all the instances in our lives when He shut a door to disaster, diverted a harmful person from our path, blocked a stray bullet, steered us out of the path of an accident, whispered in someone's ear to do something for us that they had no intention of doing, our brains would probably turn to mush before we were even halfway through it.

The next time you find yourself growing impatient and frustrated about the one or two things you feel like God isn't doing, try to stop and imagine all the ways He runs interference for you on a day-by-day, minute-by-minute basis.

It doesn't take a whole lotta introspection and deep-thinking to see that the "wisdom of man" is hardly dependable.

Whether atheist, agnostic, or devout, we all have faith and we all have to put that faith somewhere. No one can exist without a belief that extends beyond their own ego. Putting that faith in government, money, love, fame, achievement, or legacy is always going to be a losing bet. All those things are fleeting and all those things eventually fail.

The power and presence of God is the only constant in existence. He always was and will always be.

"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know He holds my future
And life is worth the living just because He lives"

These old hymns are just so...wow.

We all know how to reach out to God when we are in the valley, but we often forget to call upon Him when we are on the mountaintop. It is at the high points of our lives where we can feel His absence most keenly because those are the times when we feel that we don't need Him as much, so we stop reaching for Him.

But God wants to be the god of our high and our lows. Of course He wants us to cry out to Him in our despair, but He also wants us to seek Him in our triumphs.
