We're excited to kick off our new monthly CommonGood Thrift Volunteer Spotlight series! Each month, we'll highlight the wonderful people who generously give their time to support our mission and make a difference in our community.

This month, we're highlighting Roy Shields! Roy brings a kind heart and a willingness to serve to our Donation Center. His time and dedication help make CommonGood Thrift a welcoming place for donors while supporting the larger mission of CommonGood Medical.

We asked Roy a few questions to get to know him better:

"Awesome." "An organization dedicated to helping individuals and families."

"The staff! I've also found it refreshing to meet and assist donors."

"From my personal experience, CommonGood Thrift is very accommodating and truly seems to be moving in an exceptionally positive direction."

🌼🧡 What a beautiful celebration of life, love, and remembrance!

Last weekend, CommonGood Medical and CommonGood Thrift had the joy of being part of the McKinney Día de los Mu***os Festival, and what an incredible experience it was!

From the vibrant celebrations and smiling faces to the heartfelt moments of remembering those who are no longer with us, this event truly touched our hearts. 🧡

We had so much fun connecting with our community through our $1 Treasure Sale, kids' painting activities, and prizes! 🎨🛍️✨ We also loved having the opportunity to share more about CommonGood Medical's mission, the neighbors we serve, and how we provide compassionate, whole-person healthcare to uninsured families in our community.

But one of the most meaningful parts of the day was our ofrenda, where families and neighbors were invited to share photos, names, and memories of their loved ones they wished to honor and remember. Seeing our community come together to celebrate their lives, share stories, and keep their memories alive was something truly special. 🕯️🌼

A huge THANK YOU to our wonderful community for stopping by, celebrating with us, learning more about CommonGood, and making this day so memorable!

And a special thank you to TUPPS Brewery and McKinney Dia De Los Mu***os for hosting such a beautiful event that brings our community together through culture, tradition, and remembrance.

We are so grateful that CommonGood Medical and CommonGood Thrift got to be part of it.

✨ Staff Spotlight: Meet Jonathan Lagunas! ✨

We're excited to kick off our new monthly CommonGood Thrift Staff Spotlight series! Each month, we'll introduce you to the wonderful people behind the scenes who help make our mission possible.

First up is Jonathan Lagunas, our Director of CommonGood Thrift! Jonathan brings leadership, dedication, and a heart for serving our community. His passion for giving donated items a second life while supporting CommonGood Medical's mission makes him such a valued part of our team!

We asked Jonathan a few fun questions to get to know him better:

💙 If you could describe CommonGood Thrift in one word, what would it be and why?

"Community." "CommonGood Thrift gives me the opportunity to give back to the community I was raised in while keeping items out of landfills. It's even more meaningful knowing our work helps provide free healthcare for our neighbors and gives volunteers a way to serve."

🛍️ What's your favorite part of working at the Donation Center, or a favorite memory?

"I love going through donations and finding unique items. You wouldn't believe some of the things we receive! One of my favorite memories is when Diane found a $50 bill in the pocket of a pair of kids' pants. Someone probably forgot their birthday or Christmas money in there ;("

🕯️ What's your favorite 'Thrift Comfort'?

"A candle and a good playlist! I love lighting a candle (donated, of course) and playing music on our speaker (also donated). The candle helps with some of the unique smells, and the music keeps us going after our 15th carload of the day!"

That closet cleanout doesn’t have to wait for the weekend anymore. 😉 CommonGood Thrift is expanding our Donation Center hours so you can drop off your gently used items any day of the week from 9 AM to 5 PM!

We want to make it easier for our community to donate with purpose and turn the things you no longer need into something that can make a difference for a neighbor.
