Vol. V of Folk Life is live on our website!

There’s something about summertime in Appalachia that feels a little like coming home. Long evenings on the porch, gardens heavy with promise, creek days, family gatherings, and the familiar rhythm of life in the mountains.

Inside this Summer Edition, you’ll find stories, traditions, local favorites, seasonal inspiration, and the people who make this region such a special place to call home. It’s a celebration of the simple joys that define summer here…the things that have been passed down through generations and continue to bring us together.

So grab a glass of sweet tea, find a shady spot, and settle in for a while. We hope these pages remind you of what makes mountain life so rich and worth preserving.

Happy June, friends, and happy reading.

What a beautiful beginning.

Our very first Table gathering was everything we hoped it would be and more. As the evening unfolded, strangers became friends over shared stories, laughter echoed across the orchard, plates were passed, glasses were raised, and every course told a piece of the season’s story.

Just as the sun slipped behind the mountains, a blue moon rose above the trees, casting its glow over the table. Soon after, the first fireflies of the season began to dance through the grass, as if the mountains themselves were celebrating alongside us.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. Thank you for taking a seat, sharing an evening, and helping bring this dream to life. These gatherings are about more than food, though the food is unbelievable, but they’re about slowing down, connecting, and remembering the simple joy of being together around an Appalachian table.

Our next Table event will be held June 20th. Tickets and our tentative menu are available on our website now.
Will you take a seat with us?

Every empty cup tells a story around here.

A teacher after school. A lineman headed out for the day. A stay at home momma bringing the kids out so they can all get a treat. Farmers with dirt still on their boots. Old friends lingering over one more cup of coffee while the morning rolls in slow through the mountains.

Different walks of life, same worn tables.

Around here, we believe a good gathering place ought to feed more than just your belly. It ought to fill your heart a little too. A place where folks can settle in, rest awhile, share stories, laugh loud, and leave feeling known.

Some grab things togo as they head off for the day. Some stay awhile. But our favorite thing is watching familiar faces come back through the door day after day, season after season.

Because in these hills, community’s still built the old-fashioned way. One hot cup, one shared table, and one neighbor at a time.

Thank you all for making folk a family

There’s a certain kind of evening that only exists here in the mountains at the edge of May.
The air turns soft after sunset. The orchard settles into golden light. The peas are sweet, the berries are just beginning to ripen, and the blossoms that carried us through spring are slowly giving way to summer fruit. Around here, the changing of seasons is not something you rush past. It’s something you gather around the table to honor.
This Saturday atop the orchard, we invite you to join us for Root to Blossom: A May Tasting Journey — an intimate seven-course dining experience designed to tell the story of this fleeting season in Appalachia.
The evening begins grounded in the earth with sheep’s milk cheese, apple butter, and house-made crackers before moving into the bright green freshness of chilled spring pea & mint velouté. From there, we climb further into the season with elderflower-fried squash blossoms stuffed with whipped herb cheese, strawberry and arugula salad with the first berries of late May, and applewood-smoked mountain trout honoring the cold streams that feed these hills.
The heart of the evening arrives with slow-braised beef short ribs over creamy stone-ground grits, finished with charred asparagus, garlic scapes, and chive blossom gremolata — a harvest table worthy dish meant to be lingered over as the sun disappears behind the ridge line.
And finally, dessert: layered lemon cake with wild berries and cream, celebrating the sweetness born from spring’s blossoms before summer fully arrives.
The Table was created to feel like an old Appalachian gathering reimagined — thoughtful food, long conversation, candlelight, and a shared appreciation for the land around us.
Last minute tickets are now available at www.thefolkcollaborative.com. We would be honored to have you at the table this Saturday evening.

Around here, fresh has always meant stepping out to the garden before stepping into the kitchen. Long before it had a name or became a trend, that’s just how folks in Appalachia cooked. You used what was growing, picked what was ready, and served it with care.

That way of doing things still lives on here at Folk. From garnishes and syrup ingredients to lettuces, fruits, and the herbs used in our teas , so much of what you enjoy here is grown right on our farm and picked fresh for your plate or cup.

We always joke with our folks here that if they need a breather for a minute, we’ll just send them out on “garden duty” to gather berries, herbs, and garnishes for the day. Truthfully, though, it’s one of our favorite parts of what we do. There’s something special about walking outside, picking what’s in season, and bringing it straight back inside to share with y’all.

There’s a certain kind of goodness that comes from food grown close to home and served with intention, and we’re grateful to carry that tradition on every day.

🧺🌱 New Menu 5/21🌱🧺

Tomorrow, we open the windows, turn the porch lights on, and bring back summer the Appalachian way.

Our new seasonal menu drops tomorrow, inspired by small town summers, mountain memories, roadside stops, garden dinners, firefly evenings, creek days, Small town holidays, and the kind of Americana that feels lived in instead of staged.

This one feels like sun-faded postcards, old family recipes, screen doors slamming, and playing outside until the dinner bell rang. An Appalachian revival of summer, told through food, gathering, and nostalgia.

We cannot wait for y’all to taste what we’ve been working on. Summer starts tomorrow. What will you try first?☀️

What Nots and Happenings…. An Appalachian Revival

Suprise! We are 2 days away from our summer menu release, and bella wanted to take some time to share the story behind this summers menu. It’s so much more than just drinks and food…it’s an ode to our favorite places, our childhoods, nostalgia , and most importantly of a summer spent in Appalachia.

Each menu item has a story, and within the pages of the menu you’ll find peaks into our inspo behind the item in italics underneath the description. Take a minute, read, and truly feel what this menu brings.

We can’t wait to share this with you… and yes lemonades are coming back don’t fret.
