Rodney will be missed...

It is with great sadness that we share the news of our dear friend Rodney Nelson’s passing. Nearly every January between the years of 1988 and 2020, Rodney traveled from his Sims, North Dakota ranch home to be a part of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Through his seemingly boundless stories shared on and off stage we were all brought into Rodney’s community. His world was rich with family, friends, ranching, and rodeo and we all delighted in hearing of the people, places, horses, history, and events Rodney so artfully honored through poetry and story. We are grateful for our time with such a kind, generous, and gifted westerner. Our deepest sympathy is extended to Rodney’s family and friends. Photo by Kevin Martini Fuller, 1989.
