RESIDENTS, PUBLIC REMINDED TO USE CAUTION NEAR HYDROELECTRIC DAMS AS DRAWDOWNS BEGIN

Key points at a glance

• Wisconsin River Power Co. is beginning its annual drawdowns at its hydroelectric power plants.

• The 2026 drawdowns are beginning next week to allow for maintenance to be safely performed this winter.

• Water levels will be reduced, and thin or unstable ice conditions may occur.

Necedah — Wisconsin River Power Co. (WRPCO) is sharing important safety steps to take ahead of its yearly drawdowns at its hydroelectric power plants in Adams and Juneau counties.

DRAWDOWN DETAILS

A drawdown is a controlled process in which a hydroelectric dam's water reservoir is gradually lowered. WRPCO will begin lowering the reservoir at its Petenwell Dam on Monday, Jan. 19, and at its Castle Rock Dam on Sunday, Feb. 1.

The drawdowns are beginning next week to allow WRPCO to safely perform maintenance work at the Castle Rock Dam this winter.

WRPCO performs drawdowns each year to help manage higher river flows in the spring caused by melting snow in northern and central Wisconsin. The drawdowns also help increase hydroelectric power generation during the winter. Water levels may be reduced by up to 5 feet at the Petenwell Dam and up to 6 feet at the Castle Rock Dam during the drawdowns.

Sometimes the best move you can make is leaving the crowded, over-pressured spots behind and taking a chance on new water.

It’s easy to fall into the comfort zone—same launches, same community holes, same fish that have seen every bait in the tackle shop. But pressure changes fish.

High traffic means more noise, more shadows, more presentations… and fish that get cautious real quick. They still feed, they just don’t make mistakes as often.

That’s where both risk and adaptation come in.
Exploring new water forces you to slow down, read conditions, and fish smarter. Yesterday that meant downsizing—micro jigs and subtle plastics—to match the mood of the fish. When the barometer is high, they’ll follow, inspect, and slide away.
Smaller profiles, natural movement, and finesse presentations are often the difference between “just looking” and actually committing.

There’s a lesson there beyond fishing too. Getting uncomfortable, trying something new, and taking calculated risks is how you grow—on and off the water.

New water teaches you more, challenges your habits, and often rewards you with less pressure and better bites.

Fish smart. Be willing to pivot. And don’t be afraid to leave the crowd behind. 🎣

I think it’s time to go back to school. Ummm. Recently a family member and a friend asked me why I blocked them. I was confused. I checked just in case and there were no blocked people on my list. Then I see this. Hmmm, I am not the only one. So now I am fixing my blocked posts. I wondered where everybody had been! This is good to know. It's ridiculous to have over 300 friends and only 25 are allowed to see posts.
I ignored this post earlier because I didn’t think it worked. It WORKS!! I have a whole new news feed. I’m seeing posts from people I haven’t seen in years.
Here’s how to bypass the system FB now has in place that limits posts on your news feed. Their new algorithm chooses the same few people - about 25 - who will read your posts...
okay here goes....HELLO. To regain friends in your news feed and get rid of ads - Hold your finger anywhere in this post and click ′copy’. Go to your page where it says ‘What's on your mind?’ Tap your finger anywhere in the blank field. Click paste. This upgrades the system.
Hello new and old friends!🥰
It's sad we have to keep doing this to kill the Ads and see our friends hello people.

Due to dozens of cancellations this year I’ve decided I will not book any future trips unless a $100 deposit is paid for before all charters as my time is just as valuable as yours. Thanks for understanding and happy fishing!
