Mountain Man Antiques

Mountain Man Antiques Exploring the world of antiques in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia! I will try to post regularly on here.

My name is Andrew and I hope you will join me as I navigate my way through the world of antiques. It all started with my love of history and my mother having a packed basement full of historical items, antiques, and family heirlooms since she is the only child of an only child. I dove into antiques in Michigan but I am now located in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. I currently have a booth

in Rolling Hills Antique Mall in Harrisonburg, Va. Just look for the tags with a red 'AJT' on them. It's a small booth for now as I only do this as a side job, but hopefully it will grow in the coming years and it'll be even better if you are along for the ride! Posts may be recent finds, historical adventures, articles, or videos. You can also find me on Twitter, Instagram, and eBay; those links are under the contact info. If you have any questions about an antique you may have you can message me through this page or email me at [email protected]. I am still learning and don't know everything, but hopefully if I can't answer your question I can at least point you in the right direction.

This gorgeous bench/settee would look great in so many different environments. It would look great in a man cave or in the entrance hallway of a house. It probably dates to 1900, give or take a few years on either side. It does show some wear and in the video you can see it does have a crack along the back rail. That doesn’t take away from the solid build at all. I sit on it with no worries and Michael says it is super comfortable. If you throw a quilt or blanket over that section, you’d never know it is there. Let me know if you are interested!

54” long x 33” tall x 24” deep

This GORGEOUS Art Deco wardrobe is one of the coolest wardrobes I have ever seen. It has the great sleek lines associated with Art Deco but is lightweight and easy to move around. My dad and I had no trouble getting it from the second floor of an old farm house.

As with all antiques and vintage items, it shows some wear but really is in good overall condition. Let me know if you’d like more info!

Circa 1920-1940
Measures 61” tall x 30” wide x 17 deep.

There are numerous reasons to buy antiques from antique malls or stores, including…

-Presentation. A lot of the time items have already been cleaned and are ready to go into your home. Sure, there are always going to be “as-is” items or items that need some loving, but most dealers in a mall or store make items presentable and ready to display or use.

-Selection. You are going to have a much bigger and broader selection at an antique mall or store versus a garage sale or thrift store.

-Easy picking. The dealers have done the work for you. The items have been found and you just have to take them home with you!

-Knowledge. Most staff members have a general knowledge of antiques but they also have an idea of what the mall or store has at any given moment. You can ask them if they think there is that hard to find item you are looking for.

-Rotating stock. With sales being made and dealers bringing in new stock, it’s almost like you visit a brand new store every time you go to your local antique mall or store.

What reasons did I miss? Let me know in the comments!

We had a family outing to .auctions today. Michael did great, and as you can see he even did a little bidding himself. He didn’t get the fishing lures he wanted, but sometimes you strike out at auction. He was disappointed but he understood he had to stick to his budget. I ended up getting a few things myself so it was a good day on that front. Those items will be coming to a booth near you soon!
