“How to Pick the Perfect Christmas Tree”
• height & width- it’s important to remember when you come to the farm that the only thing you have to compare the size to out here is the sky. Know the heights of your ceilings and the width of the space you’d like the tree to go before coming to pick a tree to ensure the best fit.
• species- We carry three different types of trees.
Scotch pines are a common choice if you grew up around here cutting down your own tree. You know the familiar sharpness of the needles and their fluffy full shape.
White pines also grow here in illinois, and are soft and traditionally more slender however some of ours this year are bushy as well. They are beautiful, but their soft pliable branches don’t hold up to much weight so if you have any heavier ornaments you might veer away from these.
Fraser firs are notoriously the fan favorite. They offer the strongest branches, the most fragrant aroma, and they stay fresh for the long haul.
• freshness signs- when you’re deciding on tree, the freshest one will be heavy and fully hydrated, not losing tons of needles, and the branches won’t be brittle.
• Once you get the tree home, you’ll want to get it in water as soon as possible. Continue to water it for as long as itwill drink. The longer it takes more water, the longer it will last!
