Happy New Year y’all! We just smashed my traditional Korean spread! It is tradition to eat (rice cake soup), tteokguk (떡국), on New Year's Day because it is believed to grant the people good luck for the year and gain a year of age. I also made Gujoelpan for my first time on my own and it turned out amazing! Gujeolpan follows the traditional principles of objangsaek. The ancient Chinese philosophy that was adopted by Koreans during the Yi Dynasty. As with many Korean dishes, gujeolpan reflects 5 Korean traditional colors, obangsaek (오방색), — white, black, red, yellow, and blue (green in terms of food) which represent hope and longevity. Gujeolpan refers to a platter with nine sections that’s used to serve traditional delicacies. “Gu” means number 9, “jeol” sectioned, and “pan” a tray or a platter. In Asian culture, the number nine holds a symbolic meaning of fullness and harmony. Thankful I had family and friends to share this spread with! 🎉

Although this year was full of disappointments I will have to say I’m thankful first I made it through the year healthy but most of all taking the jump to start my own company! With the help and support of two amazing business owners & I was able to not only meet my 2-3 pop-up goals but surpass them! I learned so much and absolutely can’t wait to see what the future holds for my Cali Kimchi Kitchen company! I start Culinary school in a few weeks which is exciting and I plan on posting more cooking videos so get ready y’all! It’s going to be a busy year for me but I’m excited and ready for a new year! Happy New Year’s Eve y’all! May 2021 be full of happiness, health, and successful endeavors! Cheers 2021! 🎉

ABOUT CALI KIMCHI KITCHEN

Cali Kimchi Kitchen’s current plan is to pop-up at various locations to share Korean, Cali, and Southern fusion food. Home Chef Victoria is a product of a city girl from Seoul, Korea and a Virginia Blue Ridge mountain boy. She calls Savannah, Georgia her home as she graduated high school and college there, along with living there for 15 years. Hence the influence of Korean and Southern food. She married a Cali boy and now resides in Martinez, CA. Martinez has variety of food options but not the fusion that Home Chef Victoria is bringing to the table. Be prepared to consume fusion food packed with labor of love!
