Drew could use some well wishes, he had bypass surgery last week and is recovering at home. Blog post by former student and intern, Peter Follansbee.

This year, as Country Workshops closed down, we asked ourselves if the CW web site should be preserved. And if so, how? The answer is Yes and No. We have decided to create an Archive that can become a resource going forward. This will be found as a Country Workshops Archive now embedded into Drew's personal website www.DrewLangsner.com

One of the most useful (and potentially valuable) sections is the collection of e-mail Newsletters. In the Newsletter we announced what would be coming up -- now history. More relevant, the newsletters contain a variety of articles on many aspects of traditional and green woodworking that CW addressed. A few examples: several entries on sharpening techniques, understanding oil finishes, riving into thirds, chopping stumps with legs, and much more. You will need to dig through these; they are in dated sequence rather than organized by subject. It should be worth the effort.

Well folks, Country Workshops has officially closed. Our summer tutorials are wrapped and all tools are now sold out. We still have a full selection of books and DVDs and we are keeping our web site intact, as an archive and resource.

Drew will also continue to offer privately arranged tutorials limited to 1-2 students. Possibilities include: carving bowls and spoons, ladderback, and rustic Windsor chair making. 1-5 days. The dates are mutually decided, beginning spring 2018. Drew is also open to teaching at other venues – when the circumstances are particularly interesting. Email if you have a proposal or question. GOOD NEWS DEPARTMENT

Our friends Kenneth and Angela Kortemeier are starting the Maine Coast Craft School. They are offering courses similar to Country Workshops' classes, and their store will offer a similar selection from the same makers.

SIGNING OFF

We are thankful to everyone who took a class, purchased a tool or book, visited our farm, or contributed to Country Workshops in some way. This little business supported our family and was the best vision for a life well lived that we could imagine, we could not have done it without you. Thank you and happy woodworking!

I will be teaching Rustic Windsor Chairmaking in Maine this Fall. I am looking forward to spending some time traveling up North and teaching at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks. The link below has more information.

The rustic Windsors made in this tutorial are related to the Welsh Stick Windsor project in The Chairmaker’s Workshop. The chair utilizes a large, comfortable seat and a 4-element sculpted arm-bow. The legs are octagonal in cross-section, with a wide foot that converges into cylindrical tapered teno…

Shaving horse explosion! Anyone who has tried their hand at green woodworking already knows that using a shaving horse along with a drawknife and spokeshave is a magical combination. It's so efficient. And satisfying.

We now have a new take on the shaving horse, called Zig-Zag. Country Workshops now has two Zig-Zag horses and these have been used extensively during classes. It's really nice to set the work support height and slope angle anywhere you want it. Quick and easy. Click below to read more about this evolution.
