Have you picked up your Midwest Bookstore Roadmap yet? Someone from our Independent Bookstore Day crawl won April's prize of a $50 gift card! The Midwest Booksellers Association draws every month and there's one annual prize of $500! We've had several winners... stop by & pick yours up today!

🌧️📚 We firmly believe rainy day bookstore hopping is a top-tier activity.

Congratulations to our May Roadmap Contest winner, Sarah! Her rainy-day bookstore adventure through Marquette, MI included visits to Bromley’s Books, Snowbound Books, Bats Amore, and Read My Lips. Her cozy haul photo — featuring books, stickers, and the MIBA Roadmap along for the ride — was randomly selected as this month’s winning entry ✨

Sarah is now $50 closer to her next indie bookstore haul!

And don’t go too far… our grand prize winner announcement is coming later this week 👀📚

Road Trip! Last night we took books down to the lovely Escanaba Public Library for Jim McCommons' talk on his latest book, Feather Wars. Not only does this book have local content, but it's getting national attention - both the NYT and WSJ reviewed it. AND, Jim is becoming quite the celebrity, with recent appearances on Steve Rinella's MeatEater podcast and BookTV on CNN. We'll be doing several more events with Jim - go to snowboundbooks.com for details.

Last night's author signing with Sara Shunk Maurer for her incredible debut novel, A Good Animal, gave us two of our favorite kinds of insights: what authors are reading and what they hope stays with readers long after the final page.

As far as her nightstand goes, Sara informed us that she is part of the Sisterhood of the Traveling ARCs, a group of writers exchanging their 2026 debut ARCs chainletter-style until they receive their own back again; complete with comments and stickers. Oh, and of course a research stack related to her next book!

For the takeaway, Sara stated that she wanted to shine a light on a different side of the UP for her readers. Rather than showcase the familiar aspects of adventure and recreation of our region, Sara felt it important to illuminate the significance of the agricultural heart of the Upper Peninsula, and the deep meaning that holds for generations of families and farmers.

We loved this book and give it 5 stars!!

We had a great time attending Curtis Chin’s event at the Peter White Public Library last night! We loved hearing anecdotes from “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant”, Curtis' memoir on growing up in the back of his family's long-standing Chinese restaurant in 1980s Detroit; a truly entertaining read you won't want to miss. We still have a few signed copies available at the store if you weren't able to make it to the event last night!

A big shoutout to the Michigan Humanities By the People program series Let’s Dish: Sharing Culture, Stories & Connection for helping make this event possible.
