We talk about them all the time, but what even is a terpene, anyway? 🤨
In fancy terms, terpenes are aromatic hydrocarbon compounds housed in the trichomes of the plant that contribute to each individual strain’s aroma and flavor, thusly impacting your high through chemical exchanges and emotional responses. Terpenes can also be found in different fruits and flowers like apples, lavender, or even black peppercorn.
Plainly, terps are the essential oils of each specific strain and can help you narrow down your preferences or therapeutic results. When considered with cannabinoids (conversation for another day) an “entourage effect” is produced that ensures you experience the plant’s total benefits and ideal frequency.
If you prefer sours, you probably prefer options that are high in limonene. Looking to possibly alleviate some pain and anxiety? Beta-Caryophyllene is gonna be your go-to as it binds to both CB1 and CB2 receptors. The most abundant and commonly found terpene is Myrcene, which has a hoppy aroma and brings the chill vibes most folks associate with a solid sesh.
