Thanksgiving, a holiday that is rooted in gratitude, it’s also the perfect opportunity to tap into a more reflective mindset.

"Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness." 2 Corinthians 9:10.

We cannot express our gratitude enough for all the hard work and dedication that Dairy Farmers put into their herd and crops to improve our economy and continuously provide healthy food into our homes. 🐄🥛🍦

Today we are featuring the Ream Family from Markelton, PA for our Thanksgiving week Dairy farmer appreciation. In 1907 the Ream's Pineybrook farm came to life. Since then, the farm has been passed down, and is currently on its 5th generation. A notable chapter in the Ream’s journey was when Austin Ream had met Larissa Ream (Lesney) at a cow show. Larissa, who was also born into the dairy industry, previously was the Butler County Dairy Princess. She was proudly raised on her family’s farm, Chestnut Run Farms. Their story doesn't stop there though, Pineybrook Farm continues to provide wholesome dairy to date with plans to continue on for generations to come. In June, Austin and Larissa welcomed baby Lawson with hopes of him one day continuing the family’s dairy legacy. Currently, their family milks around 80 cows, which consists of a variety of Holsteins, Red and Whites, and Jerseys. The Reams are proud members of Land O Lakes Cooperative and work diligently to provide a quality product. Additionally, they farm 650 acres of corn, hay, and sorghum to provide their herd with healthy rations. Looking forward, the Reams would like to continue to close the gap between their farm and consumers. This includes possibly expanding the operation so they are able to bottle milk, and sell milk directly to consumers at their own facility. One thing they would like consumers to know is that they work hard everyday to provide a good product for the public. In order to provide a quality product, they are sure each animal is well-cared for, and they care for the environment so the fields continue to provide crops for years to come. When asked what their favorite aspect of dairy farming is, their response was being able to work with family, and work with quality cattle. Additionally, they explained it's always refreshing to work in the fields, and be outside. No matter what, the passion for the dairy industry will always run deep throughout each member of the Ream family. Thank you to the Ream family for their hard work, and dedication to the Somerset County Dairy Industry!
