We serve a God of mercy!
There are so many instances all throughout Scripture where God’s mercy is on full display. One in particular is in Genesis 18 & 19 where Abraham pleads with God to spare the righteous in the cities of S***m and Gomorrah.
“Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?” (Gen 18:24) God replies saying “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of S***m, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”(Gen 18:26) They go back and forth all the way from 50 people to just 10. God is willing to spare the entire city if even just 10 righteous people are found.
Fast forward a little bit, and we find Lot living amongst these people. They try to break into his house, but the LORD protects him and the next day, gives him an opportunity to escape with his family before destruction is brought upon the people of S***m and Gomorrah. Lot escapes with his wife and 2 daughters to safety. The section ends saying “So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.” (Gen 19:29)
God, in His kindness, remembered Abraham. In His righteous, He destroyed the wicked cities. In His mercy, He saved Lot, his wife, and his children.
We serve a God who is kind, just, righteous, and also merciful. He will remember His word, and He makes a way for the righteous to be saved, to not perish. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Praise God for His love and for His mercies that are new every morning! 🫶🏾
