I think we gave our elders... parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, police and other people in authority more respect, growing up in the 1950s/60s, than children and young people do nowadays. We were taught manners at home by our parents. As I grew older in my teens and twenties I would have discussions with my parents and was allowed my own opinion, but always with respect. There are exceptions nowadays as many children and teenagers are polite, but it all depends how the children have been brought up by their parents. No
