Famous actress from The Wonder Years shares a post about Spy Alley!

Quarantine time!! 😋 Been up here in Canada, quarantining before my next movie. 📽 While quarantining like this can be a challenge (by law, we can't even go to our sidewalk, for 14 days!), I am super excited to start shooting later this month and extremely grateful for the bonus bonding time with my mom & the munchkin. Here, we are playing this game called Spy Alley - it's awesome and we play it every day. 🤣
Sending you all hugs and peaceful hearts... and here's to making the best of situations. ❤🙏🏼🥰 Keep breathing, hug your family, and turn off the news from time to time, k? 😉

HOW TO DETOX FROM TECHNOLOGY
In todays technological age we have gained so much convenience and ease of communication. We can tweet, text, post on Instagram, and make skype calls. But in the hyper connected world we have become disconnected with the people we love most. Our attention has been split up among our machines and not concentrated on our family and friends.

One great way to detox from the distraction of technology is to play board games. I love to sit down to play a game of Spy Alley or Simply Suspects. It really gives me a chance to interact with my family and friends on a truly human level. Board games like these give me a great opportunity to focus attention on those who matter to me.

So I ask you to put down your phones, shut down your computers and pick up a board game. Don’t divide your attention amongst your machines. Concentrate it on the people who are most important to you and make you happy. Its amazing how good that makes you feel.

Come enjoy shopping the Spring Festival at Canterbury Park.

SPY ALLEY Partners will be exhibiting their family board games in BOOTH #270 (2nd Floor).

Board games require family members to sit down and interact with each other – increasingly important in a world where we spend much of our time in separate rooms.

But perhaps best of all, they remind us how to play!

WHAT CRITICAL SKILL IS YOUR CHILD MISSING IN SCHOOL?

Your children are missing out on one major skill in their education. Ignoring this skill could set them up for a lifetime of hardship. A lot of traditional education focuses on the retention and regurgitation of facts. What is Pythagoreans theorem? What is the sum of the angles in a right Triangle? But there is one very important skill that is severely neglected. That skill is learning how to think.

No one is going to argue that remembering things such as pythagoreans theorem isn’t important, but learning how to think is equally if not more important. The problem is that
people’s jobs are being replaced by computers and robots that can remember facts better and repeat processes better than humans can and frankly have fewer requirements. They don’t sleep they don’t eat and they don’t complain. They simply buzz away executing repeatable processes and recalling data points and facts with nearly 100% accuracy. The world is changing and the days of making a living off remembering facts and doing easily automated tasks are going by the way side.

The jobs of tomorrow will reward problem solvers. Those who know how to think and why to think that way. The next wave of workers will be creative problem solvers who innovate on how we approach and solve the problems of tomorrow.

So how do you gain this all elusive skill. Well one way is to play board games. Many Board games teach your mind to learn how to think. Games that rely heavily on social interaction and complex body language are great. These games allow your brain to learn how to think not what to think. You need to come up with creative ways of working with and against other players. Chess for example has a finite number of rules that are hard and fast and the players creativity is limited by the strict rules of the game. It took a while but computer power has become fast enough where a computer can crunch all of the possible moves in the game and calculate the best probable move in any situation. Computers now dominate humans in chess. But in games that involve social interaction and body language clues, computers just can compute the billions of variables presented by complex human interaction. So play more board games, learn how to think and why to think. Your imagination is your most powerful asset so feed it.

BECOME A HUMAN LIE DETECTOR FOR UNDER $40!

Did you ever wish that you had the skills to determine if someone was lying or telling the truth? There are plenty of great board games for under $40.00 dollars that will teach you these critical skills that could save you thousands! Here are three things liars do that you can learn from playing board games.

1. They say too much. I have found that liars will commonly give you more information than you ask for. They will answer questions that were never asked.

2. They will give too much detail about insignificant facts. Liars like to focus on insignificant facts to make it look like they are forthcoming and honest.

3. Change the subject. A talented liar will change the subject to keep you from getting to close to the truth.

Playing board games will teach you to look out for these three things and many more. I have been working on these skills for many years. It is hard to develop these skills in everyday life because you don’t always know if you were lied to and sometimes you find out years later.

That is why playing games is great to learn these skills. You will constantly hone these skills in games that have some aspect of deception. Poker, Spy Alley, and Werewolf are great games that utilize deception as a key game mechanic. Play these games to develop your skills.

WHY I WANT YOUR KIDS TO BE LOSERS!

I hope your child loses. You may think I am crazy but I can explain why. What do Micheal Jordan, Thomas Edison have in common. They all saw the tremendous value in losing. To quote Micheal Jordan “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Growing up I played lots of games with my Parents. Spy Alley, Chess, Checkers, Sorry and Simply Suspects. The one theme that held true is that they never let me win. It seems that in this day and age many parents are afraid of playing games that have a loser. Cooperative games have gained steam as a way to avoid the negative connotation with losing and parents have tried to “protect” their children from the sting of a loss. But I am telling you, you should let them lose and here are 4 good reasons why.

1. Learning how to deal with loss is one of the most important life lessons, as loss is simply a major part of our life experience.

2. Losing a game isn’t the only time you’ll face defeat, and how you respond and pick yourself back up says a lot about you.

3. Losing also gives you drive and purpose. It makes you want to strive to be better and achieve what you previously couldn’t.

4. Teaching resilience now sets kids up for success because they learn that failure isn't the end of the world. It's just a chance to try again.

Losing is not what defines you. You are not a loser because you lost. Losing is an opportunity to learn. Thomas Edison tried 10,000 ways to make a lightbulb and is quoted as saying “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” So let your kids lose. Even encourage it. It is an opportunity for them to learn and grow. We want a generation of children who dare to dream not afraid to fail.

Games are a great way to do this. Not only did playing games like Spy Alley, Checkers, and Chess give me the opportunity to fail in a consequence free environment. They allowed me to learn from my mistakes and become a better player and better thinker.
