🇬🇧 PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM LOST COLONY TAVERN 🇬🇧

After 250 years of careful consideration, we’ve decided to let it go.

We know things got a little awkward back in 1776, but today we congratulate the United States of America on 250 years of independence. You sure seem to have made something of yourselves.

At Lost Colony Tavern, we celebrate American independence today and EVERY day the only way a proper British pub knows how:
🍺 Good beer.
🥧 Great food.
🇺🇸 A toast to our American friends.
☕ And perhaps one tiny cup of tea… served without incident.

All month long we’ve been flying our collection of historic U.S. flags throughout American history from the Revolutionary War to now: From the Betsy Ross and Star Spangled Banner to the Civil War and the glourious 50-star flag.

And absolutely no tea will be thrown into the sound.

Ghost of Blackbeard T-Shirts featuring the Lost Colony Tavern Logo have arrived!

THE LEGEND OF BLACKBEARD:

RISE OF THE PIRATE:
Edward Teach, famously known as Blackbeard, began as a privateer during Queen Anne's War before becoming a pirate in 1717. He earned his name from his fearsome appearance, which included a thick black beard often tied with slow-burning matches that billowed smoke, giving him a demonic look.

INFAMOUS DEEDS:
His most notorious expedition was a week-long blockade of Charleston, South Carolina, where he held the city hostage for medical supplies.

FINALE BATTLE:
Blackbeard’s reign ended on November 22, 1718, in a brutal battle against Lieutenant Robert Maynard at Ocracoke. Despite sustaining 25 wounds and 5 gunshots, he fought until he fell. Maynard displayed the pirate's severed head on his ship's bowsprit as a warning.
