The Kindness Empire brings students out of the classroom to visit beautiful cultural sites. Today, Hallett Academy 4th graders are exploring Denver Botanic Gardens. Each child has a sketch book and package of colored pencils. We’re visiting the jungle today. We’re being scientific explorers and artists.

Keke was excited to study Artist Jean Michel Basquiat today. Knowing Basquiat is also from Haiti made Keke proud.
For The Kindness Empire’s art classes each week, we study a different artist for inspiration. We learned about Basquiat and how when he was just 8-years-old, the same age as many of our students, he was hit by a car. Basquiat’s Mom brought him a copy of “Gray’s Anatomy” as a way of encouraging her son’s recovery. Look out for human anatomical elements in Basquiat’s paintings.
